Ruteng, Manggarai Regency – Localโข health officials are intensifying efforts to expand HPV โคvaccination coverage across Manggarai Regency, with a โparticular focusโ on engaging parents to encourage their children’s participation. โขThe initiative aims to protect against HPV infectionsโฃ and prevent cervical cancer and other related diseases.
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common virus that can lead to several cancers, including cervical, anal, and โoropharyngeal cancers. โคVaccinationโข isโฃ a highlyโข effective preventative โฃmeasure, andโข national guidelinesโ recommend HPVโ vaccination beginning at age 5 or betweenโ 9-15 years.The manggaraiโข Regency government recognizesโข the critical role parents playโฃ in ensuring their โchildren receive this vital protection.
Currently, HPV vaccination services are available atโฃ 25 โ Puskesmas (community health centers) throughout the regency. For 2024, the government allocated โข4,500 HPV vaccineโ vials targeting 1,500 women aged 15-45โ years,โฃ with an additional 4,254 vials earmarked forโฃ 1,418 women in the same age group โfor 2025.Alongside this,โข 7,079 vaccine doses โare โขdesignatedโ for elementary school students aged 9-15. To accelerate vaccination rates among students, a simultaneous vaccination campaign will be conducted in schools starting in August 2025. โHealth workers willโค also conduct follow-up outreach – described asโฃ “sweeping Go back to school” – to ensure students unable to attend the scheduled sessions receive their vaccinations.
