Reconstruction of the Jungfernstieg in Hamburg is progressing | NDR.de – News

The reconstruction of the Jungfernstieg is entering its final phase: According to the Hamburg Senate, the asphalting and marking work has now been completed.

According to the transport authority, the Jungfernstieg is now open to buses, taxis, cyclists and delivery traffic in both directions. However, the Jungfernstieg remains taboo for private car traffic. The next step is to renew the sidewalks. They will be paved and new benches will be installed. There are also new bollards, trash cans and flower pots.

Construction work is on hold due to the Christmas business

There will be a break in construction from the end of November to the beginning of January. The reason: consideration for the Christmas business and the “Winterzauber” Christmas market on the Alster. When the renovation is finished, the Jungfernstieg should be safer and more attractive. There will be more space for pedestrians and cyclists.

Redesign is scheduled to be completed in May 2025

The redesign is scheduled to be completed at the end of May 2025. The city of Hamburg is investing a total of 13.4 million euros in the project.

Hamburg police seize more than two tons of cocaine | NDR.de – News

Police and customs officials found 2.1 tons of cocaine in a joint operation in Hamburg. The drug was seized on Wednesday during a spectacular operation in the Rothenburgsort district and presented on Friday.

“Our security authorities have succeeded in striking a relevant blow against organized drug crime,” said Hamburg’s Interior Senator Andy Grote (SPD). “It is an outstanding success and one of the largest seizures in an ongoing operation in which suspects were also arrested,” he explained.

Twelve suspects arrested

According to the police, a total of twelve suspects were arrested in connection with the operation in Rothenburgsort, including the driver of the truck and his boss. According to police, the cocaine has a street value of around 100 million euros. It was hidden in banana crates in a shipping container.

67,000 visitors at the Night of the Churches in Hamburg | NDR.de – News

On Saturday evening, more than 80 Christian communities opened their doors for the Night of the Churches in Hamburg. According to the organizers, a total of around 67,000 visitors attended the more than 250 events.

This year’s motto was: “What do you believe?” There was music, literature and comedy. Many visitors also came to events about faith and science on the DESY campus. “Hamburg experienced a wonderful night of churches! How wonderful that so many people accepted the invitation and visited Hamburg’s churches as special places. The program was great and incredibly diverse,” said head pastor and provost Martin Vetter.

NDR stage in Mönckebergstraße

The largest ecumenical church event in northern Germany took place for the 21st time this year. It was opened on the NDR stage in Mönckebergstrasse. Bishop Kirsten Fehrs, Hamburg’s school senator Ksenija Bekeris (SPD) and the Catholic Archbishop Stefan Heße were among those present. How can the job prospects of people with disabilities be improved? 13 companies, including companies from Hamburg, have been working on this question for three years. The companies involved have now drawn a positive conclusion.

In the “Innoklusio” model project, the initiators tested new approaches for the professional participation of people with disabilities. Since 2021, a total of 13 pilot companies – including Bayer, Generali and Boehringer-Ingelheim – have significantly increased awareness of inclusion among their employees and managers nationwide. In over 40 seminars, the inclusion skills of around 500 managers were trained and numerous inclusion managers were trained.

Hamburg-based Beiersdorf Group also involved

The skin care company Beiersdorf from Hamburg has apparently broken down prejudices within the company and adapted its application processes for people with disabilities. “In the future, more people with disabilities will find a job at Beiersdorf,” said Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board Manuela Rousseau.
