Bath Township, OH – โ Nine people were injured in a shooting at an Airbnb โคrental in Bath Township overnight, authorities confirmed. The incident โoccurred at a large party โฃreportedly โattended by many young people.โ
Injuries ranged across both juveniles and adults, tho โคthe extent of those โขinjuries remains unclear as of Sunday morning. Akron Police andโข Fire Departments joined a large, multi-departmental โresponseโ to the scene.
“This isโข a community – violence is not commonplaceโข here,” โsaid Bathโ Township Administrator โVito Sinopoli. “We do ourโค very best to ensure the protection of our residents and business owners. โฃWhen an incident like this occurs, we’re very upset about it. We’re going to do โour very best โto find out who’s responsible for this and prosecute them to the fullest extent ofโฃ the law.”
The shooting echoesโ a similar incident eight years prior, in 2016, when a 17-year-old was shotโ in the knee outside an Airbnb party in Bath Township.
Akron Mayor Shammas Malik released a statement on Facebook Sunday morning, saying, “Lastโค night, our community experienced a terrible shootingโฆthose who perpetrate violence anywhereโ in our community mustโ be held accountable for their actions. This kind โof deadlyโข behavior cannot be โnormalized.” Malik also emphasized โคthe need โfor community andโค parental involvement in youth safety, stating the City of Akron is “committed to โคcontinuing ourโฃ work alongside parents, youth-serving non-profits and our broader community.”
