The bomb exploded in front of this luxury high-rise building in the harbor

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 19, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The Cologne police are taking over the investigation after the explosion in the port. This indicates a connection with the alleged series of attacks by the “Mocro Mafia”.

Everything indicates that the “Mocro Mafia” is behind the explosion. In recent weeks, there have been several cases throughout North Rhine-Westphalia with a similar modus operandi. Explosions have already occurred in Cologne, Engelskirchen and Duisburg, but also in Düsseldorf. The first arson attack took place here in mid-July on an office and commercial building on Berliner Allee. The second case last night involves a luxury property in the Media Harbor.

The bomb exploded in front of “Tower 2” of the Frankonia project “Winwin”. The project with two twin towers is exclusive housing in the media harbor. Employees of the local real estate company did not want to give t-online any information, but according to the homepage, “the Winwin community is where determined entrepreneurs meet creative personalities.” A roof garden, concierge and five-star residential service are a matter of course here.

In “Tower 2” there is a lounge, an in-house restaurant and a private fitness studio on the ground floor. Above that there are several floors with rental apartments, with floors 15 to 18 being condominiums. The roof terrace has a kitchen for residents.

Exclusive living has its price. The basic rent for an already reserved, approximately 74 square meter apartment in “Tower 2” on the 17th floor is 2,590 euros. There are also additional costs of 500 euros and 230 euros for the parking space. A condominium has been advertised on the “immobilienscout24” portal. The asking price for a 75 square meter three-room apartment on the 15th floor is 1,303,300 euros. Including the property transfer tax, notary fees and the land register entry, the total costs are 1,414,081 euros.

After the nighttime explosion in Düsseldorf, which left no one injured, the Cologne police took over the investigation on Monday morning. This suggests a connection with cases of the “Mocro Mafia” in recent weeks, which the investigators did not confirm. “We are checking whether there is such a connection. If that is not the case, the investigation will be handed back to Düsseldorf,” said a police spokeswoman in Cologne.

Witnesses who can provide information about the incident in Düsseldorf are asked to contact the police by phone at 0221/229-0 or by email at poststelle.koeln@polizei.nrw.de.

110,000 come to Cologne for NRW Day: The state celebrates itself | Regional

Köln – A federal state celebrates with its citizens under a bright blue sky, and politicians mingle with the people. In Cologne, crowds flocked to the banks of the Rhine on Saturday to celebrate NRW Day.

North Rhine-Westphalia is turning 78 and, after a six-year break, is celebrating its birthday again with a large two-day civic festival. On NRW Day, organizations, regions and authorities presented themselves on a large site around the Rheinauhafen in Cologne.

► In addition to representatives of the state government, Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (49, CDU) and Cologne Mayor Henriette Reker (67, independent) were also present on the more than two-and-a-half-kilometer-long celebration mile.

Presentations and concerts

According to a city spokeswoman, around 110,000 people came to the exhibition area on Saturday alone. “This exceeded our expectations.”

Many rescue and emergency services presented themselves and their equipment in the so-called blue light area. According to the organizers, the largest area is occupied by the State Policewhich demonstrated dog squads and water cannons.

A crowd puller on Saturday afternoon was the auction of confiscated items by the NRW judicial authorities on the Sparkasse stage.

Not only were 100 creative handbags made by imprisoned women in North Rhine-Westphalia up for auction, but the “potpourri of the evidence room” particularly delighted the visitors.

Under the bailiff’s hammer: From the Apple Watch for 190 euros to Jimmy Choo shoes for 95 euros (instead of 450 euros) and a Lego Technics set for 125 euros (instead of 289 euros) to a Kärcher for 200 euros, as well as bicycles, tools and BVB fan articles.

For the first time, the state government’s traditional summer concert will be integrated into the celebrations. In the evening, the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie will play on Roncalliplatz under the direction of Frank Beermann.

NRW founded in 1946

The state’s birthday is August 23rd. On this day in 1946, North Rhine-Westphalia was founded. On the state’s 60th birthday in 2006, a NRW Day was celebrated for the first time and since 2012 it has been celebrated every two years.

Essen organized the last one so far (2018). In 2020 and 2022, the major event fell victim to the corona pandemic.

The largest games studios in Germany 2024

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 15, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The largest games studios in Germany in 2024 (by employees) – as of August 14, 2024

A lot of movement in a turbulent market: These are the games developers with the most employees in Germany in 2024.

In the annual GamesWirtschaft survey of the largest computer game developers in Germany, two opposing developments can be seen:

  • Compared to the previous year, job cuts are clearly evident across the industry, particularly (but not exclusively) affecting the branches of large corporations.
  • At the same time, the federal government’s games funding provides a certain degree of stability and planning security – at least for those studios that submitted their concepts in good time before the application freeze in May 2023 and are now comparatively can work relaxed on completing their games.

It is in the nature of things that the largest subsidies go to the big studios – such as Ubisoft Mainz (Year 117: Pax Romana), InnoGames, King Art, Deck13 or CipSoft. Only there are the appropriate structures to implement projects with budgets in the high single-digit, sometimes double-digit million range.

Other abnormalities:

  • Three studios in the top 10 are operated by Ubisoft – with 11th place (Kolibri Games) there are even four. Including the headquarters in Düsseldorf, the French publisher employs almost 900 people – second place in the employer ranking.
  • Berlin is the capital of games development – with 13 (!) studios alone that employ more than 50 people and four companies in the top 10. In second and third place: Bavaria (7) and Hesse (6). Surprisingly: In North Rhine-Westphalia there are an enormous number of small and medium-sized companies, but only one ‘big one’, namely Ubisoft Düsseldorf.
  • Of the 36 studios listed, almost half are online and mobile games specialists – the other half produce classic PC and console games.
  • The greater Frankfurt am Main area remains the ‘action/role-playing stronghold’ of Germany – with studios like Crytek (Hunt: Showdown, Crysis 4), Cloud Imperium Games, Deck13 (Atlas Traps), Keen Games (Enshrouded) and Gunzilla Games.

The largest games studios in Germany 2024

Please note: The analysis only includes studios that develop their own games on a substantial scale at the respective location. Companies whose focus is on publishing – such as Aerosoft, Astragon, Daedalic, Plaion or Gameforge – are therefore not included.

The 2024 overview of the country’s largest games companies – including publishers, agencies, distributors, console manufacturers and media houses – can be found here.

World star performs again at the Nachtresidenz

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 14, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Jason Derulo and the Nachtresidenz: It seems to be a good fit. On Saturday, the US superstar will perform in Düsseldorf for a second time. But the collaboration could go even further.

Full clubs in the middle of summer are a rarity because people prefer to be outdoors at this time of year. But the Düsseldorf Nachtresidenz will still be bursting at the seams on Saturday, August 17, despite the summer – after all, a real US superstar has announced his appearance at the “Resi” for the second time this year.

Last March, Jason Derulo stopped by the club on Bahnstrasse near the Kö after his concert in Cologne and created a great party atmosphere in the night residence. This time, the musician will first appear in Nordhorn as a headliner at the “Grafschaft Open Air 2024” and is then expected to return to Düsseldorf. Derulo is not just coming to party, he will also perform on stage after midnight. When exactly that will be has not yet been decided. But it probably won’t be before 1 a.m.

“Jason Derulo’s performances in March at the Nachtresidenz and in Ibiza were simply brilliant and were very well received by the guests. Working with him is a good fit and I’m already looking forward to the future,” says Oelbracht. What does he mean by that? The “Resi” boss doesn’t just want to lure the US superstar to Düsseldorf for a 30-minute short performance, but wants to organize an entire concert with him. But that’s still a long way off.

Operators had taken out an extra loan – German ski resort insolvent | Regional

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 9, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

In the Homberg ski resort in Winterberg-Züschen (North Rhine-Westphalia), not only the snow but also the coal has melted away. The operators Jan and Nina Homann had to file for bankruptcy. The “Sauerlandkurier” reports on this.

The couple started out in February 2022 with big goals: Not only did the Homanns want to operate the approximately 35-hectare ski area (equivalent to about 50 football fields), they also wanted to inspire holidaymakers with the “Homberg Jause”.

The dream of happy ski fans between gliding and yeast dumplings has now been shattered. The Arnsberg District Court has opened insolvency proceedings against the “Homberg-Ziegenhelle Sport- und Freizeitgesellschaft” (case number 52 IN 70/24). According to the “Kurier”, a provisional insolvency administrator from Dortmund (North Rhine-Westphalia) has been appointed. The newspaper tried to contact the operators by telephone – without success.

Ski resort insolvent: webcams already switched off

We can only speculate about the reasons for the bankruptcy. It may have been due to the exploding energy prices and the excessively warm weather in the winter months. In addition, the Homanns had to pump money into six older ski lifts.

The enthusiastic skiers’ lifelong dream has been shattered

As BILD reported in 2022, the couple had taken out a loan specifically for the deal. This was the only way Jan and Nina Homann could take over 75 percent of the area. The remaining 25 percent is shared by the ski school, the Züschen Ski Club and a local association, among others.

Even then, the Homanns saidthemselves enthusiastic skiers, who even got married in an Alpine hut: “We have to make a turnover now, the costs are huge.” Among other things, they had to pay 52 employees, from the cook to the technician.

What will become of them in light of the insolvency is uncertain. It is also unclear whether the ski area can be used at all in the 2024/25 season. The website and some webcams have already been shut down.

Psychology – Why do we still dream of school? – Education

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 9, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Exam jitters – that’s a feeling that millions of students in Germany know and from which they are currently recovering. Many federal states are still on summer vacation, in some schools have already started again, although without the great pressure of exams in the first few weeks. But it’s also a feeling that affects many adults who have long since left school behind. At night.

School dreams, the classics of nighttime head theatre

If you ask around, you’ll find that many people dream about school and exam situations. A nameless classroom, a blackboard at the front, a sheet of paper with tasks on the table – these are classic scenes of theater that our brains create while we sleep.

The long school break in summer is a good opportunity to ask yourself: Why is that actually the case?

Anyone who wants to know should speak to Michael Schredl, one of the country’s best-known dream researchers. A man who has very well-considered answers to pressing questions. He says: A school dream is less about concrete experiences in educational institutions many years ago – but about current, emotionally relevant things in the here and now.

“A dream always mixes current experiences with things that one has experienced in the past – if these previous experiences trigger similar emotions or feelings. Dreams link current events with previous ones,” explains the scientific director of the sleep laboratory at the Central Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim. From this perspective, school is just a kind of foil on which the current state of mind can be recognized.

A feeling that is not only found in classrooms

“The basic pattern of the exam dream is that someone else wants to know whether you are capable of something, whether you can achieve something. The feeling is: My performance is being observed,” explains Schredl.

It’s a feeling that can be unpleasant. And a feeling that is not only found in classrooms. “This basic pattern is something that we encounter not only in school, but throughout life,” says the researcher. “In professional life, it is no longer the teacher who tests, but the boss or colleagues.”

It is therefore also possible that former model students who were always well prepared dream of sitting cluelessly in front of a math or English exam as adults. “Because it is about current feelings and emotions,” says Schredl.

“If you feel like you are not sufficiently prepared for a certain task at work, this can be mixed up in your dream with a situation from school.” A study by Schredl found that dreams about exams are among the top ten themes in nightmares.

Psychology – Why do we still dream of school? – EducationOpen detailed viewSchool dreams are among the classics among dreams – and nightmares too. (Archive image) (Photo: Bodo Marks/dpa)

The science author Stefan Klein, who has written a highly acclaimed book about dreams (“Dreams. A Journey into Our Inner Reality”), is one of those people who often dream about exam situations – although he himself says he never had much fear of tests and the like.

But he also says: “I dream about it in a very specific situation in life. Namely, when I am afraid of being judged.” For him, this is typically the case when the publication date of a book is approaching.

“Dreams tell me how I really feel”

“My dream tells me something about myself,” says Klein. During the day, we often tell ourselves that we can handle a situation well. But the dream shows that it is unsettling and causes stress. “A wise friend of mine once said: dreams tell me how I really feel. There is a lot of truth in that,” says Klein. “Emotion is what drives the dream.”

The question remains: Why does this emotion choose school as the stage for its staging?

Well, it is very formative for many people. The first evaluations, the first authorities. “School is so present because many things happened for the first time during this time – also because some problems started there. It is a time of strong emotions,” says dream researcher Schredl.

All we can wish the students who are now streaming back into the classrooms is sweet dreams.
