A survey of parents shows that they are satisfied with certain schools

written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Dortmund (dpa/lnw) – Parents’ satisfaction with the special schools their children attend North Rhine-Westphalia According to a survey, visits are high. In the survey by two parent associations, almost three quarters (73 per cent) said they were “very satisfied” or “satisfied” with their special school. On the other hand, 11.5 percent of parents said they were “dissatisfied” or “very dissatisfied” and 15 percent chose the “somewhat to some extent” option. The results are based on 2,354 responses, as reported by the association in the center and state parents of special schools for mental development and physical and motor development.

The results in detail

Among the reasons why they enrolled their child in a special school, 72 percent said the argument: “At the special school there are smaller classes and more teachers.” Two thirds also believe that their child could not keep up with the material in a general school. And 46 percent of parents said they were sure that “special schools are basically the best kind of school for children with disabilities.” Therapeutic care and special supportive transportation for students—such as a minibus or a taxi

A high level of satisfaction can be seen, among other things, in the relationship with the teachers and the reliability of the teaching times. On the other hand, the standard level of satisfaction with the learning offerings is “moderate”. A minority of 15 per cent of parents are considering moving their child to an inclusive mainstream school. Of all those surveyed, 18 percent said their child had already attended an inclusive school before the special school. “So you know both kinds of schools.”

Children who have a mental or physical disability or who require special support due to their emotional and social development deserve inclusive lessons alongside non-disabled children in regular schools. However, even ten years after inclusion was anchored in school law, mainstream schools often do not have an offer that includes students with disabilities and takes into account their learning needs. have, said the central parents’ association.

Both associations see a clear demand from parents for special schools

The associations clarified that their open online survey was conducted in a “non-scientific context.” The idea is clear: the chairman of the state association of parents of special schools GE and KME in North Rhine-Westphalia, Bernd Klagge, spoke of a “clear advocacy for special schools”. The experimental system of special schools should not be affected. The association requested that it be equipped with the necessary resources.

Eva-Maria Thomas, chairman of Mittendrin, warned according to the statement: “It is time for the state government to finally act in a planned and structured way to provide good quality inclusive education to the area.”

The Minister of Schools, Dorothee Feller, said that the study shows that good work is being done at special schools. The state government is pursuing the goal of providing equal educational opportunities to all students. “The special schools contribute a lot to this, as do the co-educational schools,” said the CDU politician. “A good inclusive school offer and good special needs schools enable parents of children who need special educational support to choose the right offer for their child.”

Praying mantis spreads in Cologne: Even spotted on the cathedral square

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 3, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The European praying mantis is being sighted more and more frequently in North Rhine-Westphalia. The heat-loving insect has even been discovered in the busy Cologne city area, near the cathedral.

The European praying mantis is being sighted more and more frequently in North Rhine-Westphalia. Recent observations show that the heat-loving insect, which actually comes from the Mediterranean region, is now also becoming native to Cologne.

As the NABU reported in response to a query from t-online, numerous reports of sightings of the European praying mantis in the Cologne city area have already been received. “We were even informed of an animal that was seen in a tent pole on the cathedral square on NRW Day,” says Birgit Röttering from the NABU Cologne city association. Citizens can report sightings of the insects, as well as other animals, via the naturgucker.de website.

In Europe, the praying mantis’ main distribution area is in the Mediterranean region. However, as average temperatures rise, the insect is continually migrating northwards. A particularly large number of reports are now coming from the southwest of North Rhine-Westphalia, especially from the Lower Rhine Bay. From here, the species is spreading further towards the Ruhr region and the valleys of the Rhenish Slate Mountains.

The European praying mantis belongs to the species of mantis. It owes its name to its two tentacles, which resemble hands raised in prayer and can strike with lightning speed to catch prey such as grasshoppers or flies. These insects prefer dry, warm grass and bush landscapes and require a sufficient supply of food.

The police repeatedly warn of fraud schemes that trick unsuspecting older people into handing over large sums of money – but in Germany, an 80-year-old turned the tables and handed the perpetrator over to the police. The 19-year-old must now answer for suspected fraud in North Rhine-Westphalia, police in Mülheim an der Ruhr announced on Sunday.

According to the report, the 80-year-old received a call on Friday from a man who claimed to be a bank employee and pretended to need his bank card and PIN. The older man saw through the trick and prepared an envelope in front of his front door.

Crime scene in the city center: arrest of the young suspect

When the 19-year-old picked him up and wanted to go to the bus stop, he offered to drive him into town. In the meantime, however, the 80-year-old had already called the police – the officers stopped the vehicle in the city center and arrested the young man.

He has no fixed place of residence. The police have launched an investigation.

Düsseldorf | «Mother of all wedding processions»: trial cancelled

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 31, 2024

A3 near Ratingen completely blocked by several sports cars

Seven defendants were to answer to the Düsseldorf District Court for events that took place more than five years ago surrounding a wedding procession on the A3 motorway. The case had caused a sensation as the “mother of all wedding processions”.

The wedding party members are said to have completely blocked the A3 motorway near Ratingen on March 22, 2019 on all lanes in the direction of Cologne. Among them was the groom at the time. The public prosecutor’s office accuses the 30 to 41-year-old men of joint coercion.

Car burned turning in circles leaving skid marks in the asphalt

According to the prosecution, the men had blocked all lanes and shoulders with several sports cars and other vehicles, thereby slowing down the following traffic. One car was parked across the road, another was said to have turned in circles on the highway in front of the bride’s vehicle and burned a round skid mark (“donut”) into the asphalt.

Because there was an unmarked police car behind the blockers, the incident was documented on video. In addition, police officers were later able to secure further recordings on the suspects’ cell phones as evidence during a search.

And then someone shot a gun into the air

One of those involved can be seen waving a gun around and shooting into the air. He is also accused of violating the weapons law. He is the same person who was absent from the courtroom on Friday. One of the other defendants is also accused of driving without a license.

When asked, his lawyer said he did not know where his client was. It was not immediately clear whether the defendant’s absence could have something to do with his criminal record. The charges were not read out. The trial had already been postponed several times.

Rumours about Dejan Ljubicic’s transfer

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 21, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The transfer window closes on August 30th. Will another professional leave 1. FC Köln? New rumors have emerged in recent days.

The short training week before the home game against Eintracht Braunschweig on Saturday evening began with one bad and one good piece of news for 1. FC Köln: While Damion Downs had to sit out the cup match in Sandhausen due to a bruise, Dejan Ljubicic returned to the “Geißböcke” team training on Wednesday morning.

The Austrian missed the difficult 3-2 win against the third division team – due to knee problems, as Christian Keller said. “Dejo suffered a bruise from the Elversberg game,” explained the FC sports director. Afterwards, Ljubicic “trained with painkillers for the first few days, but towards the end of the week it got worse rather than better.” Hence his absence from the cup on Sunday.

Keller’s explanation aroused great interest not only among Cologne fans, but also in the north of England. In recent days, new speculation has arisen regarding a possible transfer of Ljubicic to Leeds United. During preseason, the traditional club from the second-tier Championship is said to have offered four million euros for the midfield all-rounder – far too little from the perspective of Cologne, who would lose a key player and cannot improve their position themselves due to their transfer ban.

After the rumor mill had calmed down in the meantime, the “Kicker” newspaper reported that Ljubicic was pushing for a move to England one year before the end of his contract. The 26-year-old himself recently told the “90Minuten” portal: “Rumors are part of football. But I’m not concerned with them. I’m here in Cologne, where I want to perform well again.” No matter how acute Ljubicic’s desire to move may be, the FC would probably only give in to an extremely immoral offer – if at all.

The situation is completely different for Marvin Schwäbe. The former Cologne goalkeeper has not found a new club even several months after announcing that he would leave in the event of relegation. Recently, apart from unsuccessful talks with VfL Bochum, there have not even been any rumours.

But now Schwäbe is also being linked with an English second division club. As sports journalist Alan Nixon reports, the 29-year-old is said to be a candidate for Blackburn Rovers. However, it is uncertain whether the father of two could imagine a move to the UK.

The transfer window is open until August 30th. “We have a clear agreement: If there is an offer that suits him and us, we will come to a conclusion,” said sporting director Keller last week regarding Schwäbe. At that time, there had not yet been “a reliable offer for Marvin.”

Nikola Soldo, who was promoted to the U21s in July, is also still aiming to leave. There have been inquiries for the central defender, “but none where everyone said they would like to do it,” according to Keller. But in the interests of all parties, “there is still an intention to move.”
