In order to start the cold season well protected, pharmacies in North Rhine-Westphalia are calling for the “Long Night of Vaccination”. Next Tuesday (October 1st), citizens can get vaccinated against flu and corona in participating pharmacies until late in the evening, as the pharmacists’ associations of North Rhine and Westphalia-Lippe announced. The offer in pharmacies is intended to be a supplement to vaccinations in doctor’s offices, it was said.

There are around 700 pharmacies in North Rhine-Westphalia that generally offer vaccinations. It is not known how many of them will take part in the “Long Night of Vaccination”, said a spokeswoman for the Westphalia-Lippe Pharmacists’ Association. The pharmacies do not have to register and organize themselves. Each individual also decides individually about the extended times, i.e. whether a pharmacy will vaccinate until 10 p.m. or midnight.

A vaccination appointment is required at some pharmacies. “I recommend that anyone interested ask the pharmacy in advance whether they need to make or book an appointment or whether they can just come,” said the spokeswoman. An incomplete interactive map of Germany of participating pharmacies, including in other federal states, as well as some links to register for vaccinations, can be found at ange-nacht-des-impfens.de.

The North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of Health welcomed the initiatives, which are intended to help increase vaccination rates. “Vaccination is still the best protection against serious illness for both flu and corona,” said Health Minister Karl-Josef Laumann (CDU).

The pharmacists’ associations are convinced that the campaign also serves to reach people who previously did not have time to get vaccinated.

Düsseldorf | Stefan Raab enjoys his return to TV

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 14, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

After a long countdown, the more than 13,000 spectators in Düsseldorf were first surprised when the spotlight shone not on Raab, but on comedian Helge Schneider, who performed his hit “Katzeklo”.

After a second countdown, a show staircase emerged from the high ceiling of the hall, which seemed to lead down from heaven. Then fitness influencer Pamela Reif floated over the audience as an angel on ropes and sang the anthem: “Stefan Raab is back.”

Raab then slowly and leisurely descended the endless staircase in a white suit and white cape to pathetic music and seemed to have the light in the room under godlike control. To fireworks and glitter rain, he stepped onto the stage and sang his new boxing song “Pa aufs Maul” with Sido, Ski Aggu and background singers. Raab seemed to be in very good physical shape, with muscles, a white stubble and short white hair. He posed in boxer shorts with the inscription “The Killerplautze”.

It is the third encounter between entertainer Raab (57) and former boxing world champion Regina Halmich (47) in the ring. Fists flew in 2001 and 2007. Both times the Cologne native lost to the Karlsruhe native. The event will be hosted by Raab’s old partner Elton, and the commentator will be Frank “Buschi” Buschmann. Laura Wontorra will report from the ring. Raab announced the spectacle around April 1st.

Authorities confiscate brothel – Background

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 11, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The state of North Rhine-Westphalia is taking action: The “Pascha” now belongs to North Rhine-Westphalia. This is why the large brothel is in the focus of the authorities.

The well-known Cologne brothel “Pascha” was provisionally confiscated by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia on August 8th. The Düsseldorf public prosecutor’s office confirmed this when asked by t-online. The background to the measure, which is said to have been carried out by the Düsseldorf public prosecutor’s office, is investigations into a gang of people smugglers. The “Bild” newspaper was the first to report this.

According to the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger” and the “Bild” newspaper, the group was broken up in mid-May during raids in eight federal states. The gang is said to have smuggled wealthy Chinese citizens into Germany in particular – for up to 350,000 euros each. According to investigators, the group laundered its income from the smuggling business through the “Pascha”.

According to media reports, the main suspects are two lawyers from the Cologne area, aged 42 and 46. According to ZDF, a total of ten people were arrested during the raids – and around 1.2 million euros in cash was confiscated. The alleged confiscation apparently has no impact on operations in the brothel on Hornstrasse, which, with its 150 tenants, is considered the largest in Europe.

A spokesman for the Düsseldorf public prosecutor’s office told Bild that the confiscation was a temporary measure – the state could only permanently confiscate the house after a court order. However, charges against the smuggling gang have yet to be brought.

However, the state’s action still has consequences: the current owners of the “Pascha” are now not allowed to sell the brothel or change anything on the property or the striking pink building that immediately catches the eye in Ehrenfeld. The “Pascha” has been in Cologne since 1972, and business was booming for years.

But with the first Corona measures in spring 2020, the business got into trouble, and in the autumn of the same year the large brothel had to close – bankruptcy was declared. But that was not the end of the legendary brothel: a group of Chinese businessmen took over the house for eleven million euros. The once sky-blue ten-story building was painted pink during the pandemic and reopened in 2022.

The fact that the “Pascha” has links to human trafficking, according to the prosecutors, also has a political component: the two lawyers from the Cologne area, who are said to be part of the group of “Pascha” owners, have donated almost 13,000 euros and almost 30,000 euros respectively to the CDU district association Rhein/Erft and the CDU Rhein/Berg.

The lawyers also donated 5,000 euros each to the CDU and the Junge Union. The two district associations made the donations public themselves and announced that they would cooperate with the investigators. According to Bild, the smuggling gang’s influence also extends to the Düren district: a staff leader employed in the administration there is said to have admitted to having received six-figure bribes from the group.

Rare Vb low threatens Düsseldorf and NRW – rain on the way

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 10, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The rare Vb weather situation brings extreme snowfall and huge amounts of rain to Germany. Düsseldorf and the region are also affected.

Extreme snowfall and heavy rain are threatening Germany in the coming days. According to forecasts, a rare Vb weather situation will bring more than 300 liters of rain per square meter to parts of Central Europe, with the south and east of Germany particularly affected. The weather in Düsseldorf and North Rhine-Westphalia will also be affected by the extreme weather in the coming days.

The so-called Vb low will move over the Alps towards Germany by Friday at the latest. In Austria and the Czech Republic, meteorologists fear storm surges and snowfall at altitudes below 1,000 metres. In eastern Germany, the Elbe, Oder and Neisse rivers are particularly at risk. Due to the heavy rain, the situation there could become dramatic within a very short time.

The rare weather phenomenon is favored by greatly increased temperatures in the Mediterranean. The Vb low encounters cold polar air from the north, but usually it moves over the eastern part of Germany. A westerly drift is very unlikely, but could occur due to the inaccurate forecast. In North Rhine-Westphalia, there would then be a risk of heavy rain.

The extreme forecasts from meteorologists predict more than 125 liters of rain per square meter in Cologne and Düsseldorf, and almost 200 liters per square meter in the Ruhr area in just a few days. However, the weather models are currently still varying greatly, so an accurate forecast is difficult. A storm front is also moving in from the west along the North Sea coast.

According to the weather model of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), more than 30 litres of rain per square metre are expected in Düsseldorf, especially over the weekend. There may be isolated thunderstorms and heavy rain. However, the major impact of the Vb low will probably only be felt in NRW through its offshoots.

Nevertheless, there is a risk of a drop in temperature in Düsseldorf and the region in the coming days. During the night to Thursday, temperatures will already fall into the single digits, after which it will be almost frosty.

Sewage treatment plant in Soers reports increasing corona virus load

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 9, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Colds and corona infections are on the rise again. This is not only visible in doctors’ offices, but also in the sewage treatment plant in Aachen’s Soers district.

Colds and corona diseases are on the rise again. This is also evident in the sewage treatment plants in North Rhine-Westphalia. 13 of 17 sewage treatment plants that recently submitted data to the state center as part of the wastewater-based Covid monitoring had detected an increased coronavirus load in the wastewater.

The virus load was tested in plants in Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Bonn and Aachen. As of August 21, the virus levels in the sewage treatment plant in Aachen Soers rose by 36 percent.

As part of the AMELAG project (Wastewater Monitoring for Epidemiological Situation Assessment) funded by the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG), the wastewater in 21 sewage treatment plants in North Rhine-Westphalia has been regularly tested for SARS-CoV-2 for some time. These analyses are carried out twice a week using molecular biological methods.

The results of the project provide important insights into the spread of the virus in the population. However, the processed data shows that not all sewage treatment plants could always be included in the evaluation due to incomplete or missing measurements.

With the 21 sewage treatment plants examined, the project records the wastewater flows of a total of 33.9 percent of the inhabitants of North Rhine-Westphalia. This corresponds to around 6.15 million people.

The Vaccination Commission therefore continues to advise chronically ill people and people over 60 to have their vaccinations booster every year in order to avoid severe cases of the viral disease.

➤ Trump: You have to vote for me, even if you don’t like me

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has called on voters who don’t like him to vote for him anyway. “You have no choice. You have to vote for me. Even if you don’t like me,” said the 78-year-old at a town hall hosted by the US broadcaster Fox News in the US state of Pennsylvania. Trump had previously discussed the topic of fracking with the arch-conservative talk show host Sean Hannity. Hannity said that natural gas extraction through fracking is the “lifeblood of the global economy.” Addressing Trump, Hannity said: “Correct me if I’m wrong.”

Anyone can take part in the surveys conducted by the opinion research institute Civey. However, only the answers of registered and verified users are included in the results. They must provide personal information such as age, place of residence and gender. Civey uses this information to weight a vote according to the occurrence of socioeconomic factors in the population as a whole. The company’s surveys are therefore representative. More information on the method can be found heremore for data protection here.

More news about the US election campaign on September 5, 2024:

Republican Cheney wants to vote for Harris and positions herself clearly against Trump

Prominent US Republican Liz Cheney plans to vote for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris in the presidential election in November. “As a conservative, as someone who believes in the Constitution and cares about it, I have thought carefully. And because of the danger posed by Donald Trump, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, I will vote for Kamala Harris,” the 58-year-old said at an event at Duke University in North Carolina, as seen on videos. Cheney has been a major critic of former Republican US President Trump for several years.

“I don’t think we have the luxury of putting other candidates’ names on the ballot, especially in the swing states,” said the Republican. In doing so, she made clear her position that simply not voting for Trump is not enough to prevent him. While most of the 50 states are firmly Republican or Democratic, a few are politically hotly contested. They are called swing states.
