Concerts in Hamburg: Indulge in nostalgia with Robbie Williams | NDR.de – Culture – Music

British pop star Robbie Williams gave his first concert at the Hamburg race track on Thursday. The second will follow on Friday. Tickets cost just 25 euros. The catch: only HaspaJoker customers were allowed in.

by Katharina Preuth

“I’m loving angels instead” finally rings out at the end of the almost two-hour concert over the race track and the heads of the 25,000 fans. The almost 30-year-old song “Angels” immediately triggers a firework of memories – of an earlier Robbie Williams concert with my best friend as a teenager, of first car rides with the radio turned up loud, of graduation parties.

Robbie Williams and his fans have aged together

Hamburg fans love Robbie Williams – no matter what age.

The predominantly female fans who made the pilgrimage to the concert today have aged with the superstar. They have acquired wrinkles and grey strands together. Yes, there is no other way to say it, we have grown older, Robbie Williams has grown older. But he has lost none of his entertainer qualities, his humour and his hip swing.

It is well known that he is still not the best singer – but it is also well known that he can inspire his audience in other ways. On this evening in Hamburg he performed his Robbie Williams show, which always makes his concerts worthwhile. He talks about his career, about his time with Take That – not without a dig at his former band colleagues – and is very close to his fans. He dedicates almost every song of the evening to people in the audience with whom he had previously chatted in front of everyone. It is touching.

Fans want to hear the classics

In “Angels” at the end of the concert, every line of the fans’ lyrics is spot on, just like in “Feel” or “Let me Entertain you”. But his almost forgotten songs like “Come Undone” or “She’s the One” are particularly touching. His last album with new songs was released in 2016. “The Heavy Entertainment Show” was not even close to its previous successes, with only just under 500,000 sales. The fans want to hear the old classics – and that was the case this evening.

Access only for Haspa customers

Tickets for the concert cost 25 euros, which is an absolute bargain considering current ticket prices. By comparison, fans had to shell out 120 euros for the cheapest seats at a concert by pop star Taylor Swift. The catch: only holders of a HaspaJoker account could buy tickets for this exclusive concert. Haspa also left no doubt that this was a concert sponsored by them: the advertising banners hanging and waving everywhere were impossible to miss.

While Robbie Williams sings, jumps around the stage and talks about his life, the sponsorship plays no role – instead, the shared reminiscing is important. At the end, when his band and the dancers have already left the stage, he sings “Angels” again. While the audience gives it their all, the superstar disappears, leaving nostalgic hamburgers behind.

Scholz assures Ukraine and Moldova of support

Chancellor Scholz has once again pledged support to Ukraine and its small neighboring republic of Moldova. Scholz stressed in the Moldovan capital Chisinau that Germany would not let up on this issue. The Chancellor was cautious about Ukraine’s latest offensive in the Russian region of Kursk and the question of whether weapons supplied by Germany could be used in the operation. Kiev had prepared the military operation there in great secrecy – which was certainly also due to the situation. The German government is monitoring developments closely, said Scholz. | 08/21/2024 8:45 p.m.

Scholz visits Meyer Werft tomorrow

The troubled Meyer Werft in Papenburg will receive a visit from Chancellor Scholz tomorrow. He will speak at a staff meeting there, a spokesman for the shipyard confirmed. Scholz is expected to announce at least an agreement in principle on the state’s entry into the traditional company. Meyer Werft needs equity in order to receive loans from the banks for the construction of ordered luxury steamers. | 08/21/2024 8:45 p.m.

Verden: Trial begins against soldier for murder

A German army soldier has been on trial for multiple murders since today at the Verden Regional Court. The charges were read out at the start of the trial. The man is said to have shot four people on the night of March 1. The public prosecutor accuses the 32-year-old of murdering the victims out of hatred and revenge. The victims were people who were close to his wife, from whom he was separated. The defendant did not comment on the allegations on the first day of the trial. | 08/21/2024 8:45 p.m.

Ukraine joins criminal court without being prosecuted

Ukraine has joined the International Criminal Court, with one restriction: The country claims that it does not have to recognize the court’s jurisdiction for war crimes for seven years when it comes to Ukrainian citizens. The background to this is fears of the Ukrainian army that its actions in the fight against Russian forces could in some cases be charged as war crimes. The parliament in Kyiv voted today to ratify the so-called Rome Statute of the Criminal Court in The Hague. This deals with genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity, among other things.| 08/21/2024 8:45 p.m.

Ultra-Orthodox arrested during protest against conscription

Israeli police arrested several ultra-Orthodox demonstrators during a protest against conscription. Hundreds had blocked streets in front of the conscript registration office in Jerusalem. In recent weeks, around three thousand ultra-Orthodox people had received draft orders. A ruling by Israel’s Supreme Court ended the exemption for this group. For many Israeli citizens, military service of several years is compulsory. Ultra-Orthodox people were exempted so that they could devote themselves to religious studies. | 08/21/2024 8:45 p.m.

DFB Cup: Phönix Lübeck today in the “game of the century” against BVB | NDR.de – Sport

Fourth division football club 1. FC Phönix Lübeck is facing the biggest game in the club’s history. Today, the Travestadt team will face Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund in the first round of the DFB Cup – in front of more than 48,000 spectators in Hamburg’s Volksparkstadion.

The Lübeck team moved to the arena of the second division HSV because their own stadium at Buniamshof with 3,000 spectators does not meet the safety requirements of the DFB Cup. The home ground of VfB Lübeck at Lohmühle was not an option due to fan rivalry, among other things.

But there was also criticism of the way the match was played today (6 p.m., in the NDR Livecenter) in the Volksparkstadion: HSV fans accused their club of greed and had shouted corresponding slogans during the second division match against Hertha BSC. Protest-Banner entrollt.

Game against BVB a “different dimension” for Phönix Lübeck

But Phönix does not want to concern themselves with such debates and sensitivities – there is enough to do on the Trave with the preparations for the “game of the century”. There is an “agreement” with HSV, they will help us with all professional questions, said Phönix managing director Frank Salomon to NDR. There was an “incredible amount of detailed questions” to be dealt with: “From a small team that will certainly need medical care afterwards,” he added with a grin.

AUDIO: Phönix Lübeck is looking forward to the cup duel with Borussia Dortmund (2 min)

Office manager Michael Howe also speaks of a “completely different dimension” that the last few days and weeks have brought with them: the small office of the regional league team is like a madhouse. “Regional league is professional football, but when you draw BVB as your opponent in the first round of the cup, that’s a completely different story.”

Coach Adigo: “Our chance is that we don’t have one”

Logistics is one thing, the other is the sporting action on the pitch, where the regional league team is a clear underdog against Dortmund’s star ensemble: Lübeck’s squad value is 1.1 million euros, while BVB’s is 481.1 million euros. With the exception of reserve goalkeeper Alexander Meyer, every single player in the Dortmund team is valued higher than the entire Phoenix team. So does Lübeck have no chance? “Yes, of course,” said coach Christiano Adigo, who is under no illusions, but added: “But that is basically our chance – that we don’t have one. We can only hope that Borussia Phoenix underestimates Lübeck.”

“It’s a tough task ahead of us. We’re aware of that. But we’ll be ready.”
Phoenix coach Christiano Adigo

Captain Johann Berger at least has a game plan: “Play as well as possible, make one or two pinpricks and then see what happens.” Regardless of whether anything really comes of it in the end, for midfielder Jonathan Stöver the match is “100 percent the highlight” of his career: “An almost sold-out Volkspark against a Champions League finalist – to top that again, a lot would have to go well.”

Successful dress rehearsal with first win of the season

Last season, Phönix had a long-term chance of promotion to the third division in the Regionalliga Nord and ended up third in the table. But after the best result in the club’s history, there was a major upheaval, with top scorers Haris Hyseni (Drochtersen/Assel) and Vjekoslav Taritas (VfB Oldenburg) leaving the club.

After all: After the state cup exit in the derby at VfB (1:2) and the league opening defeat in Lohne (0:2), the Schleswig-Holsteiners celebrated their first win of the season last Saturday with a 3:1 win against VfB Oldenburg and a successful dress rehearsal before the big DFB Cup appearance.

By the way, exactly 412 spectators came to the home Bunianshof for the match against Oldenburg. That is the average for the previous season. And thus around 50,000 spectators less than the crowd that the Lübeck team can expect today in the Volksparkstadion. Two days before the game in Hamburg, 49,700 tickets had already been sold. 16,000 tickets went to the Bundesliga team from Dortmund, 3,000 were reserved for the Lübeck team.

The regional league football team reacted to the poor start to the season. On Sunday, the new coach Lucas Beniermann will make his debut in the cup match against HSV. more

New reading books: fun for children and adults | NDR.de – Culture – Book

Children love to be read to. And once they have fallen in love with a story, it often has to be read over and over again. We present three new releases.

by Severine Naeve

“The Cucumber Squad” by Leslie Niemöller

“The Cucumber Troop” by Leslie Niemöller, illustrated by Liliane Oser, is published by Moritz Verlag and costs 12 euros.

Hans the pig was sometimes a little lonely in his little house in the forest.

A very shy bear – fortunately very poorly hidden behind a tree that is too thin – becomes his new roommate. And while the door to the shared apartment is already open: A rabbit who is obsessed with order and who likes to play “asshole” also moves in. Yes! Pig and bear were shocked at first, but of course the “asshole” is about a card game. A homesick zebra who is also looking for a home soon joins in. And a beaver who just can’t sit still joins in:

He stood up a lot, (…) talked all the time, (…) always wiggled one leg, (…) when he rolled the dice, the dice often fell under the table. “What’s wrong with you?” asked Tayo. “Nothing’s wrong, I just can’t concentrate very well.” “Oh, I see,” said Tayo.

Leslie Niemöller’s forest shared apartment, accompanied by loving drawings by Liliane Oser, shows in a very warm-hearted way how enriching differences and peculiarities can be.

“Let’s catch a cook!” by Kristina Anders

Greti and Jocke are really bad robbers. Luckily they live in their robber’s house with a cat who can bake pancakes really well. And sometimes she can even outsmart a bad robber like Greti and a bad robber like Jocke.

“Good night! And don’t you brush your teeth and go to bed!” cried the cat. Then Greti and Jocke went to sleep. And before they did so they scrubbed their big yellow robber teeth with lots of soap foam. But only because it was forbidden.
Reading sample

“Let’s catch a cook” by Kristina Anders was published by Moritz Verlag and costs 16 euros.

Greti and Jocke have birthdays four or five times a year, want to catch a cook who will cook them radish soup and occasionally have “really stupid ideas”. With lots of wordplay, the two little thieves, who only sleep in one bed to push each other out, turn all parenting hierarchies on their head. Children listening and adults reading aloud can laugh heartily together about it.

“How Tomcat Simon became a sailor” by Jessica Liedtke

Tomcat Simon is actually a real hero, with an official medal and all. By chance, he becomes the official ship’s cat on a cruiser of the British Royal Navy in Hong Kong in the late 1940s. He takes his job seriously:

There is little to do on board. The boredom is getting worse. (…) And so is the hunger. Especially hunger. The supplies on board are dwindling (…) and the few supplies they still have are being plundered by rats.
Reading sample

“How Tomcat Simon became a sailor” by Jessica Liedtke, illustrated by Ulrike König, is published by Woow Books and costs 14 euros.

Since Simon, with his good hunting instinct, makes sure that this comes to an end, the ship and crew eventually arrive back in their homeland of England, not least thanks to Simon.

The circumstances of the story seem to be heavy stuff and not everything may have happened exactly as it is, but Jessica Liedtke tells the story so gently and lovingly from the perspective of the cat Simon that even young listeners can draw a lot of courage from the story. Incidentally, Simon the cat is the only cat to ever receive the highest award of the British Navy. And that’s actually true.

Air bomb defused in Hamburg harbor – A7 closure lifted | NDR.de – News

written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

A British aerial bomb was discovered on Wednesday morning during construction work at the Burchardkai container terminal in the Hamburg district of Waltershof. It was defused by midday. The nearby Autobahn 7 had to be temporarily closed for this purpose.

“The bomb disposal service of the Hamburg fire department has successfully defused the bomb in Waltershof. The measures taken by the fire department and the police are being withdrawn,” the fire department announced at 12.25 p.m. via the short message service X. According to the fire department, the explosive device was a 250 kilogram bomb from the Second World War. It was discovered on the grounds of the largest container terminal of the Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA).

A7 and Elbe tunnel affected by closure

The fire department set a 300-meter-long cordon radius and a 500-meter-long warning radius around the site. Two people were reported to have had to leave their homes in the cordoned-off area. Some companies were also evacuated. The nearby Autobahn 7 was temporarily completely closed between the Othmarschen and Waltershof junctions. This also affected the Elbe tunnel. There were traffic jams stretching for kilometers in both directions. According to a fire department spokesman, the Köhlbrand Bridge did not have to be closed.
