The new regulations, detailed on the newspaper’s website, aim to foster a respectful environment while protecting the publication from potential legal repercussions stemming from user-generated content.
Effective immediately, commenting privileges are restricted to registered users and subscribers of the Correio da Manhã Premium service. Users who wish to contribute to discussions are required to explicitly accept the terms and conditions before posting. These conditions place full responsibility for submitted content on the commenter, stating they are the “sole and exclusive holder of the rights associated” with their contributions.
The newspaper asserts a broad license to utilize user comments “in any support or format currently existing in the market or that may arise,” while acknowledging the commenter retains ownership. Crucially, users are obligated to ensure their comments are not obscene, offensive, or legally actionable, and do not infringe on the intellectual property rights of others. Specifically prohibited are commercial messaging, hate speech, racism, xenophobia, discriminatory content, and any material intended to defame or harm individuals.
Correio da Manhã explicitly states that commenters are financially responsible for any fines, costs, penalties, or damages resulting from their posts. While the newspaper does not commit to proactively monitoring all comments, its editorial team reserves the right to pre-screen and reject submissions that violate the established rules. The publication also reserves the right to suspend or permanently ban users who breach the guidelines, regardless of their subscription status.
All comments will automatically be hidden one week after publication. The newspaper emphasizes that user comments represent the opinions of their authors alone and do not reflect the views of Correio da Manhã.
