DETROIT โ- The Detroitโฃ Lions are prioritizing rapid recoveryโ and mental preparation as they turn their focus to Thursday’s matchup against the Green Bay โPackers following Sunday’s contest.
The Lions โface a challengingโฃ stretch of games, playingโ on Sunday, then again on Thursday and the following Thursday for Thanksgiving. Headโ Coach Dan Campbell โคacknowledged the difficulty, stating with a grin, “it’s great.” The swift turnaroundโค demands efficient film studyโ and gameโข planning, with theโฃ team that can adapt fastest gaining a meaningful advantage, according to Campbell.
The immediate emphasis โคis on โplayer recovery. Monday and Tuesday are dedicated to โคphysical restoration, โwith the team needing to ramp up preparations by โคWednesday to performโ at โขan elite level for 60-plus snaps. Campbell noted that short weeks โare physically and mentally taxing, but are a common challenge inโ the โขNFL, notably for teams like the Lions at this time ofโข year.
Despite the demanding schedule, Campbell expressed appreciationโค for the tradition ofโข playingโ on Thanksgiving. He has experienced the holiday game both as a player and a coach. “Everybody is watching this game,” โขCampbell said. “You grow up as a kid watching it.โ Watching Detroit play and watching Dallas โplay. Detroit and โคGreenโ Bay on Thanksgiving, I just think everybody knows what thatโ is and everybody for the most part, grew up โwith that.”
He added, “Our โguys know that too.โฃ I think that’s what makes it special. it’sโฃ one thingโข for everyone to see primetime games but most of the time, all the families โขget together and they are watching these games. It feels special in that regard.”
