Police Release Body Camera Footage of Fatal 12-Car Crash in โLas Vegas
Las Vegas metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) has releasedโข body-worn camera footage documenting the chaotic aftermath of a 12-car collision that occurred on Novemberโ 18, 2023, at the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Jones Boulevard. The crash resulted in three deaths and sparked a murder inquiry, alleging the incident was intentional.
The released footage offers a raw, firsthand view โฃof the scene as officers responded to the devastating crash. It โprovides critical contextโฃ as authorities continue to build their case against 19-year-old Jose Gutierrez,who is accused ofโฃ intentionally causing the collision. The incidentโ has deeply impacted the families of the victims and raised concerns about reckless driving and its consequences in the Las Vegas area.
The crash initially claimed the lives โขof โค38-year-old โEdward Garcia and 20-year-old Adilene โคduran Ricon, Gutierrez’s girlfriend, whoโ family members say was pregnant. A third victim, 25-year-old Vanessa Lainez Vasquez, succumbed โtoโ her โinjuries on December 4, according to the โClark โCounty Coroner’s Office.
Prosecutors โhave charged Gutierrez with murder, alleging he deliberately crashed his Infiniti sedan into โstopped โขtraffic while traveling โat approximately 100 miles per hour โin a 45 mphโค zone. An arrest report โขindicatedโข Gutierrez did not apply the brakes โand exhibited signs of impairment,including red,watery eyes,and possession ofโค aโ THC vape pen.
Gutierrez was initially arrested on reckless driving charges butโ was later re-booked onโ charges โคincluding two counts of open murder, one count โขof attempted murder, and one count of battery with a deadly weapon.
