Cargo Plane Crashes Near Louisville International Airport, Multiple Fatalities Reported
Louisville, Kentucky – November 4, 2025 – A UPS Airlines cargo plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Louisville International Airport (Muhammad Ali International Airport) today, resulting in at least three fatalities – the pilots and crew onboard – and eleven injuries. The McDonnell Douglas MD-11, operating as UPS Flight 2976, was en route to Hawaii when it lost control near the airport.
Initial reports indicate the crash occurred in an industrial and logistics sector adjacent to the airport, sparking fires and damaging surrounding buildings. First responders are on the scene, and a 3-kilometer perimeter has been established around the affected area, leading to the closure of the airport to all arrivals and departures.
“Kentucky, we have been made aware of a plane crash near Louisville International Airport,” stated Governor Andy Beshear. “First responders are on scene, and we will share any details as soon as possible. Our prayers go out to the pilots, crew and all those affected. We will get back to you very quickly.”
UPS confirmed the aircraft was carrying cargo and had three crew members aboard. The company operates a fleet of approximately 500 cargo planes, including 27 MD-11s as of September.
