A new initiative, the Global โขNews Gap Project, launched by the Google News Initiative (GNI) in โฃpartnership with WAN-IFRA and FT Strategies, โaims โto address the challenges faced by digital โnative news organizations and independent news creators. The project will provide strategy consultations, growth product training, andโ resources toโข 300 selected organizations, with โan โextended applicationโ deadline ofโค September 8th.
The project stems from a need “To deepen our understanding of โคnews creators and their challenges, and identify opportunitiesโ for us to helpโฃ grow their workโ and help it thrive in an evolving ecosystem.” To that end,the GNI,WAN-IFRA,and โขFT Strategies have created three key resources: a segmentation taxonomy for funders and platforms,co-created informationโข guidelines for creators focused on accuracy andโ reliability, and a diagnostic tool to assess and improve financialโ sustainability.
The Global News โฃGap Project will offerโ selected participants strategy consultations from FT โคStrategies andโ long-termโค growth product training from GNI trainers. Additionally, โ150 organizationsโ will โreceive an annual content package from the Associated Press โ(AP), and another 150 will gain two years of membership with WAN-IFRA.Interested โขnews creators can applyโ at https://blog.google/feed/emerging-news-providers-can-apply-for-the-new-global-news-gaps-project/.
