Orlando, Florida – Concerns about Hurricane Milton and its effects in Florida led to the cancellation of the preseason game scheduled for Friday in Orlando, between the Magic and the New Orleans Pelicansreported the NBA.

The meeting will not be rescheduled.

Orlando was playing in San Antonio on Wednesday night and was scheduled to return to central Florida on Thursday. Those plans are now in doubt because of the storm, which made landfall Wednesday night near Siesta Key, Florida, and moved across the state.

“There are always things bigger than a basketball game and that’s what we have to keep in perspective,” Magic coach Jamahl Mosley said.

“Knowing that there are families and households … that are going through a difficult time right now, we need to be aware of that.”

The Magic-Pelicans game is the second NBA preseason game affected by Milton. A match scheduled for this Thursday in Miami between the Heat and the Hawks in Atlanta was postponed until October 16 due to concerns about the storm.

Also rescheduled earlier this week for Friday was an NHL preseason game in Tampa between the Lightning and the Predators. That match was originally scheduled to be played last month and was postponed due to the Hurricane Helene.

Likewise. Countless collegiate and high school events in Florida have also been canceled or postponed due to the storm.

For now, two exhibitions planned by Simone Biles and other Olympic gymnasts are still standing this weekend. The tour is scheduled to arrive on Friday at Sunrise, home of the Florida PanthersStanley Cup champions. On Saturday he would arrive in Orlando.

On the other hand, the fabric roof of the Tropicana Fieldhouse of the Tampa Bay Rayswas left in tatters after Hurricane Milton passed through Florida on Wednesday night, with wind gusts of up to 130 miles per hour from the Category 3 hurricane.

It was not immediately clear if there was damage inside the facility located in the town of St. Petersburg.

The Rays park was not used as a shelter, but the Tampa Bay Times reported that it was used as a shelter. “a training site for workers” who were brought to the area to deal with the aftermath of the storm.

The stadium opened in 1990 and initially cost $138 million. It was scheduled to be replaced in time for the 2026 season by a 1.3 billion park.

Ja Morant’s Brilliant Return to the NBA: Game-Winning Layup as Grizzlies Beat Pelicans

The Angels. Ja Morant made a brilliant return to the NBA after a 25-game suspension, hitting a game-winning layup as time expired as the Memphis Grizzlies beat the New Orleans Pelicans 115-113.

The basket capped a 34-point, eight-assist, six-rebound performance by Morant, who was suspended by the league for the first 25 games of the season after a pair of social media posts in which he displayed weapons.

“I’m human,” he said after overcoming the fatigue at the end of the duel. “I haven’t played a game in eight months. I had a lot of time, a lot of hard days where I went through that. But you know, basketball is my life, it’s what I love and I’m excited to get back.”

The Pelicans, led by 34 points from Brandon Ingram, took control of the game with a great second quarter that featured a 23-0 scoring run and saw them up 60-41 at halftime. But the Grizzlies fought back in the third quarter, cutting the lead to 10 early in the fourth quarter.

With the score tied 113-113, the player grabbed the rebound from a miss by CJ McCollum and, after a pause, got into the line to score the winning double.

In another clash, Damian Lillard scored a season-high 40 points and Giannis Antetokounmpo had a triple-double to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to a 132-119 victory over the San Antonio Spurs.

Lillard became the 51st NBA player to reach 20,000 points.

Recap of Tuesday’s NBA In-Season Tournament with Tyrese Haliburton Shining for the Pacers and Fights and Controversies Erupting

Tyrese Haliburton and the Pacers were the brightest note of this Tuesday’s NBA In-Season Tournament, the new tournament that experiments with the cup format in the NBA and which on this day was also marked by several fights and controversies, especially which ended with three being sent off (Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Jaden McDaniels) in the game between Warriors and Wolves.

Timberwolves 101 – Warriors 104

Not two minutes of the game had been played when, still with 0-0 on the scoreboard, Thompson (Warriors) and McDaniels (Wolves) began a brawl and numerous players ended up entangled in that incident, including Green (Warriors) and Rudy Gobert (Wolves ), who was saved from expulsion since the referees understood that he got involved to try to separate. The Dominican-American Karl-Anthony Towns was the most outstanding of the Wolves with 33 points and 11 rebounds while the rookie Brandin Podziemski, with 27 points, took a step forward for the Warriors who were without Stephen Curry due to knee discomfort.

Sixers 126 – Pacers 132

Haliburton, at an elite level in the NBA, gave a performance with 33 points (including 7 triples), 7 rebounds and 15 assists without losing a single ball that stopped the Sixers who had won eight games in a row.Joel Embiid (39 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists) was Philadelphia’s top scorer against the Pacers who have started the campaign very strongly.

Thunder 123 – Spurs 87

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (28 points, 6 rebounds and 7 steals) led the Thunder’s beating and sneaked into the highly anticipated duel between Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren. The two are two prodigious centers with a splendid future but they also both had an unfortunate day, since Wembanyama was left with only 8 points (4 of 15 on field goals) with 14 rebounds and 5 turnovers while Holmgren could only add 9 points (3 of 10 on shots) and 7 rebounds for the Thunder .

Nuggets 111- Clippers 108

Six losses in a row and five of them since James Harden arrived. That is the unfortunate balance of the Los Angeles Clippers, who have not yet won with ‘La Barba’ and who this time, despite putting up a fight, fell to the Denver Nuggets. Nikola Jokic was once again great (32 points, 16 rebounds and 9 assists ) while Paul George was the best of the Clippers (35 points and 7 rebounds).

Lakers 134 – Grizzlies 107

The Spanish Santi Aldama scored his best score in the NBA with 24 points, but his Memphis Grizzlies extended their crisis with a resounding defeat against the Los Angeles Lakers. Aldama was also the protagonist of a fight in which Anthony Davis pushed him to the ground and the referees distributed several techniques between players from both teams. D’Angelo Russell, with 24 points, was the top scorer for the Angelenos.

Pelicans 131 – Mavericks 110

Luka Doncic had an evening to forget (16 points on 5 of 16 shooting) and the Dallas Mavericks lost to the New Orleans Pelicans who took a breather after five straight losses. Brandon Ingram and Jordan Hawkins contributed 25 points each for the Pelicans.

Nets 124 – Magic 104

With 12 points in the last quarter and 29 in total, Spencer Dinwiddie was the key man in the Brooklyn Nets’ victory in the fourth quarter (36-18) to defeat the Orlando Magic. Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero were the best on the team from Florida with 21 and 19 points, respectively.

Pistons 120 – Hawks 126

Without Trae Young, who has just become a father for the second time, Dejounte Murray took the helm of the Atlanta Hawks with 32 points and 10 assists against Detroit. Marvin Bagley III had 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Pistons.

Hornets 105 – Heat 111

Jimmy Butler scored 32 points boasting effectiveness (10 of 14) for the Miami Heat to defeat the Hornets. PJ Washington also scored 32 points in Charlotte.

Jazz 115 – Blazzers 99

Jordan Clarkson (30 points) was one of six players in double-digit scoring for the Jazz in their win over the Blazers. Jerami Grant (26 points) was the most productive in Portland.

NBA News: Luka Doncic has to go against New Orleans with a thigh injury: there was no contact

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com March 10, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Luka Doncic has to leave the game early when the Dallas Mavericks are bankrupt at the New Orleans Pelicans. According to media reports, there is no serious injury.

2:29 minutes before the end of the third quarter, Mavs coach Jason Kidd finally pulled the ripcord and took Doncic out of the game on the advice of his medical staff. “We can all see he’s not moving well,” Kidd said after the game. “Shooting, defense, the injury affects everything. He wanted to grit his teeth for his team-mates, but at some point we had to end that.”

The Mavs announced that it was a strain in the front of the thigh, according to Adrian Wojnarowski (ESPN) an MRI showed no structural damage. The Slovenian should not be missing for long. When asked how he felt after the game, Doncic answered briefly and succinctly with “not good”. Doncic was on the field for 28 minutes, with the playmaker having 15 points (4/14 FG) and 8 assists.

It’s not the first time the Slovenian has felt pain at this point, but apart from a five-game break, Doncic never missed more than one game in his rookie season because of it. According to Doncic himself, the thigh has been causing him problems since the game against the San Antonio Spurs (the second game after the All-Star Break).

Luka Doncic concedes another technical foul

According to his own statement, there was no trigger for the pain in New Orleans. “There was no contact, which was strange for me. (…) I feel it especially when I need to use both my legs for the jump shot. It was very difficult for me to be able to push off with my legs.”

The game plan could play Dallas in the cards, however, since the Texans are only in action again on Sunday night when a guest game in Memphis is due. It is still unclear whether Doncic can then play. In addition, the 24-year-old conceded his 15th technical foul of the season in the first quarter, with another Doncic having to sit out a game. Any further technical foul would then result in another game suspension.

Doncic and the Mavs cannot afford this. The bankruptcy puts the Texans back in eighth place in the west, even leading eleventh (OKC and Portland) by only 2.5 games.
