West Virginia Football Team Honors National guard Soldiers Injured in D.C. shooting
MORGANTOWN, W.V. – The West โVirginia Universityโค football team honored two National Guard soldiers injured in a shooting in Washington, D.C., during their final โgame of the season against Texasโ Tech on Wednesday. Sarah Beckstrom,20,and Andrew Wolfe,24,were shotโ while โon duty in the nation’s capital; Beckstrom tragically died from her injuries โThursday at aโฃ hospital.
Theโข team โwore helmet decals bearing the initials “SB” and “AW” to recognise the fallen andโฃ injured soldiers, both members of the West Virginia โNational Guard. The gesture came after a difficult season for the Mountaineers, capped โคby a 49-0 loss to the Red Raiders, finishing theirโ year with a โ4-8 record. The tribute underscores the deep connectionโ betweenโ the university and the state’sโ military community.
“West Virginia cares โvery deeply about its guard. And โคthere’s โjust a proud tradition of West โฃVirginians who step up from military service. So, when something like this happens, it’s โขreally a โขgut punch to โคthe communities,” a sourceโ stated.
The shooting occurred Wednesday,โ prompting an inquiry by the United States Attorney’sโ Office for โthe District of Columbia. Details surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
