Kaiser Embarks on Nationwideโค Campaign Tour, Addresses Salary Concerns
Santiago, โChile – national libertarian Party (NLP)โ presidential candidate Johannes Kaiser launched his campaign tour thisโค Tuesday with the unveiling of a new campaign bus, beginning a journey from Arica toโ Punta Arenas โขscheduled to conclude Novemberโ 12th. He recently reachedโ the Coquimbo โคregion and plansโ activities in Arica tomorrow.
The tour will requireโค Kaiser โขto beโค largely absent from his congressional duties throughout โขOctober, returning โขonly for crucial budget sessions before the November 16th election. However, Kaiser has proactively โขaddressed potential criticism regarding his continued receipt of a parliamentary โขsalary while campaigning.
Responding to attacks from rival candidate โFranco Parisi, Kaiser confirmed an agreement with the Chamber of Deputiesโ to forgo his salary for the duration of the campaign. “From โnow on, I will be โฃonโ leave without pay,” Kaiser stated.โ “I will return for budget sessions and fulfill those obligations, but I won’t โbe fully present in Congress. We’veโ discussed โthis with the administration to ensure a leave of absence without salary, and โฃa portion ofโ my funds willโ be donated.” Sources close toโค Kaiser indicate the agreement โฃextends through the end of the campaign on November 13th.
The issue arose following pointed criticism from People’s Party (PDG) โฃcandidate Franco parisi, whoโฃ has repeatedly accused Kaiser of benefiting from a conflictโข of interest. Parisi has proposed a “kaiser Law” requiring โcandidates seeking elected officeโฃ to resignโค from their current parliamentary positions six months prior to theโ election.
“Kaiser should have resignedโข longโ ago,” Parisi asserted. “He continues to โreceive his deputy’s salary โขand enjoys all the privileges of power. That is corruption.”
During a recent televised debate, Parisiโ directly challenged Kaiser, recalling a previous exchange: “Four months ago, I asked you if you would relinquish your parliamentary salary and donate it. You told me โno, that you would continue working. I checked the records and you’ve missed approximately seven days already. do you think that’s fair? Is itโค right to be a candidate funded โby Parliament, on top โof all your parliamentary benefits?”
Kaiser last attendedโค Congress on Monday, successfully shepherding a bill through a general vote that mandatesโฃ the Legal Medical Service (SML) to identify the remains of missing detainees currently in their custody.
