Japan Airlines (JAL) will โฃterminate โคthe employment of aโค pilotโค who failed a pre-flight alcohol โขscreening, causingโ delays to three flights, followingโฃ a strong reprimand from the Japanese โtransport โministry. the incident, revealed โฃWednesday, adds to a โpattern of similar occurrences at the airlineโ andโค promptedโ the Ministryโข of โฃLand, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism to demand JAL submit preventative measures by the end ofโค theโ month.
This isโค not the firstโ time JAL has faced scrutiny over pilot alcohol consumption. The ministry issued โa prior warning to the airline inโ December regarding previous incidents, citing a lack โฃof sufficient safety consideration among employees. The latestโข case involved a pilot whoโ consumed three pints (568 millilitres each) โof beer theโ day before a scheduled flightโฃ from Honolulu to Chubu airport โคnear Nagoya on August โ28.”We โฃtake thisโ issue very โฃseriously โand deeplyโฃ apologise for causingโฃ trouble โคand โworries,” JAL โขpresident โMitsuko Tottori stated atโ a press conference. Sheโค confirmed the pilot’s โคdismissal and announced stricter pilot monitoring protocols, including the use of health data and other criteria โขto assess fitness to fly. โฃ
Four pilots โคhave โbeen suspended โฃfrom flying as a result of the ongoing examination.โ The transport ministry hasโ urged JAL to comprehensively address the systemic โissues contributing to these incidents to prevent future โdisruptions โand ensure passenger safety.
