Argentine President Milei Urges UN too Secure Release of Detained โขGendarme
UNITED NATIONS, September โ24, 2025 – Argentine President Javier Milei used his address to the United Nations Generalโ assembly today โฃto demand the immediate release of Nahuel Gallo, a member of the National โGendarmerie arrestedโ in โฃVenezuela on December 8, 2024.
Milei denounced Gallo’s detention as a “forced disappearance” and appealed to the international community, โstating, “we demand from the โGovernment of venezuela its immediate release and call the international community โขto accompany this legitimate โคclaim in defence of the moast basic principles ofโ international lawโฃ and human dignity.”
Gallo was arrested by Venezuelan authorities โขwhileโข crossing the Francisco de โคPaula Santanderโ international bridge from โขColombia, intending to meet his partnerโฃ and two-year-old son. โThe Argentine government maintains Galloโ entered Venezuela legally with โproperโค documentation but has been โคheld withoutโข formal โคcharges, access โto legal counsel, or consular assistance.
Venezuelan authorities accuse gallo of alleged espionageโค and terrorism activities, but have โคyet to present public evidence or disclose his โlocation.
The case has drawn concern from international โขorganizations including the UN and the Institution of American โStates (OAS), whichโฃ have characterized Gallo’s โคdetention as arbitrary and โขpossibly a crime against โฃhumanity. Argentina has escalated diplomatic efforts to secure his release,โ amid aโ strained bilateral โrelationship with Venezuelaโ sence โขAugust โ2024.
