Tanishk Bagchi: From Panipat to Bollywood’s Top Composer

Indian music producer Tanishk Bagchi has publicly criticized the royalty system within the Hindi music industry, despite achieving significant success with tracks like “Saiyaara” and amassing over 37 billion views on YouTube, according to recent reports.

Bagchi, known for his work on popular songs including “Bolna,” “Raatan Lambiyaan,” and “Ve Maahi,” began his career with Abbas Mustan’s film “Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon,” as noted in industry publications. His remix of A.R. Rahman’s “Humma Humma” garnered over 230 million views on YouTube, becoming one of the most-watched songs of its year.

Born in Kolkata, West Bengal, on November 23, 1980, Bagchi comes from a musical family; his parents are musicians Nand Kumar Bagchi and Sharmistha Das. He attended Frank Anthony Public School and Scottish Church College, according to biographical information.

Bagchi’s criticism centers on what he describes as an “unfair” system, suggesting a lack of security for artists despite commercial success. The specifics of his concerns were not detailed in available reports, but the statement highlights ongoing issues within the Indian music industry regarding artist compensation and rights.

The composer’s versatile discography too includes tracks like “Makhna,” “Psycho Saiyaan,” and “Manike Mage Hithe,” demonstrating a broad range of musical styles. His songs are frequently featured in festive celebrations across India, with earlier hits such as “Tamma Tamma,” “Aankh Maarey,” and “Dilbar” remaining popular choices for events.

Bagchi previously stated he “had to start from scratch when I had reach to Mumbai,” recalling struggling days before achieving recognition. He expressed joy at the widespread appreciation of his music and its presence in homes across India.
