Nicki Minaj Expresses Support for trump’s Threat of Military Intervention in Nigeria
LOS ANGELES – Nicki Minaj publicly thanked Donald Trump for his vow of military intervention in Nigeria following claims of widespread persecution of Christians, sparking both support and criticism from fans and observers. The rapper’s comments came as the Trump administration re-added Nigeria to its “Countries of Particular Concern” list, citing religious freedom violations.
Minaj posted on social media, stating, “We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other,” and added, “Numerous countries all around the world are being affected by this horror & it’s risky to pretend we don’t notice.” she concluded with a prayer for “every persecuted Christian,” signaling her alignment with concerns over religious violence in the region.
Trump, on his Truth Social platform, labeled Nigeria a “disgraced country” and promised a swift and forceful military response, stating it would “be fast, vicious and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians!” This declaration followed his assertion that “radical Islamists” were murdering “thousands of Christians” in Nigeria.
Though, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has refuted these claims, stating, according to Reuters, that the characterization of Nigeria as religiously intolerant “does not reflect our national reality, nor does it take into consideration the consistent and sincere efforts of the government to safeguard freedom of religion and beliefs for all Nigerians.”
The situation has drawn criticism of Minaj from some fans, who accused her of aligning with a polarizing political figure. One X user pointed out that MAGA Republicans have been attempting to “weaponize religion so YOUR GAY FANS can be pushed into a corner and silenced.” minaj reportedly responded with a as-deleted post, questioning, “Imagine hearing that Christians are being MURDERED & making it about you being gay.”
Minaj’s representatives have been contacted for comment by Billboard.
The “Countries of Particular Concern” list, alongside Nigeria, currently includes China, North Korea, Russia, and pakistan, designating nations the White House believes have engaged in severe religious freedom violations. The re-addition of Nigeria to the list signals a renewed focus on international religious freedom under a potential second Trump administration.
