Drenthe Sees Surge in Holiday Park Residents: Statistics Reveal Growing Trend
Drenthe is experiencing a notable increase in residents officially registered at holiday parks, with 5,130 individuals now calling these locations home. This trend mirrors a national rise, as Statistics Netherlands reports a jump from over 51,000 people registered at holiday parks in 2019 to 60,000 by 2025. The municipality of Midden-Drenthe leads the province in absolute numbers, with 980 residents currently listed at holiday park addresses, followed by Westerveld, which has 680.
When viewed proportionally, Westerveld stands out, with 341 out of every 10,000 inhabitants registered at a holiday park, closely followed by Midden-Drenthe at 288 per 10,000. At the other end of the spectrum, Meppel records the lowest number, with just 10 individuals registered at such locations.
The demographic data also indicates a important youth presence, with 18 percent of Drenthe’s holiday park residents under the age of 25, slightly below the national average of 19 percent. Statistics Netherlands highlights that residing in a holiday park frequently enough serves as a temporary solution, frequently linked to financial difficulties. In Drenthe, as in Groningen and Noord-Brabant, a higher proportion of holiday park residents receive social assistance or unemployment benefits, with approximately 8 percent of those living in these parks relying on such support.
