Daniël Lohues Releases New Album ‘We’ and Announces Tour Dates

After two years, the time has finally come again for Daniël Lohues fans: a new record. Yesterday the Erican released his album We out. An album with 13 songs in Drenthe and one in Dutch.

While Lohues often used a backing band on his previous albums, it seems We according to RTV Drenthe presenter René Steenbergen, more soloistic. “I don’t know, I just made it. I thought, ‘I’m just making what I’m making.’ I wrote it in October and I recorded it the first two weeks of November,” says Lohues.

Lohues had initially written thirty songs that could be included on the album. “I made it as an LP, that’s why there are only 14 on it. I had about thirty. Less can fit on an LP than on a CD. You get attached to it, you know every detail and you have to do that. I didn’t listen again for a while. Now he left the house early, I put my stuff in. It remains a nice process,” the Erican explains.

Lohues keeps the songs that didn’t make the album in a special place. “It’s somewhere, especially in my head. Maybe there will be a reason to release it again. It’s there, but I’m already working on new songs. In practice, it never actually happens that I’m a parent song on a new record.”

With a new album comes a new tour. Lohues now visits numerous theaters throughout the country, where he also plays the new songs from We. Lohues: “I have already had a lot of nice reactions. During my theater show I perform more new songs than I normally do. I had far too many songs, so I had to choose. It is nice to play new things. I think theater is very beautiful work. Doing songs and the stories around them. The silence in the theater is very beautiful and that you can do it very softly, acoustically, I think it is very beautiful.”

Almost all of Lohues’ theater shows are now sold out. There are still a number of tickets available for some. “That’s incredible, I can’t complain,” he says, as the doorbell rings in the background. A postal worker brings him a round package. The tour lasts until June 16. It will then conclude in the Atlas Theater in Emmen. “Today I have to go to Ulft, which is very nice there, that’s where I recorded the first two albums. It’s nice that people are coming back and that a new audience is joining us, including young people.”

After the tour, Lohues will travel. America and France, among others, are on the agenda. In addition, in December, during the Advent season, he will perform arrangements of his own songs in the theaters together with a baroque orchestra.

On April 27, Lohues, together with Bouke and Jannes, will be one of the main artists along the route that the royal family takes through the center of Emmen on King’s Day. The Erican ends the day on the mainstage on the Raadhuisplein.

“But I’m not going to say anything about that,” he says firmly. “I have agreed with the mayor and the king that nothing will be said about this. The king himself has agreed with me,” he says dogmatically.

The province of Drenthe is tackling the connections between A and N roads. In 2025, the A37/N376 points near Veenoord and the A28/N855 near Spier and Dwingeloo will be overhauled.

There will be one roundabout at Veenoord, and two roundabouts at Spier. Total costs: 3.6 million euros.

The plans are part of the Provincial Executive’s road safety plan 2022-2026. Deputy Henk Jumelet (CDA) is satisfied with the planned work. “We are aiming for zero road casualties. Safe infrastructure, such as roundabouts, is an important part of this,” he says.

Once the Provincial Council has approved the plans, planning work will start.

A journey through America past all the famous places where Elvis Presley has ever been. Singer Bouke Scholten from Emmen travels with Rob Kemps to follow the ‘King of Rock and Roll’ in the new TV program ‘My Tribute to Elvis’. The first broadcast can be seen tonight on SBS6.

In the three-part special, images of the duo’s journey are alternated with an exclusive concert by Bouke, which was recorded last October at the Paard in The Hague. During the trip in America they also meet special people from Elvis’ life and career.

At the beginning of last year, Bouke won the talent show The Tribute – Battle of the Bands and since then he has been very popular in the Netherlands. Last year, the Emmen native was among the line-up of the Zwarte Cross and was his hit Fire down below number four in the Drenthe 1000.

It is Bouke’s dream to continue to spread Elvis’ ideas and show as many people as possible what a musical genius The King was. Hence this journey from Elvis’ birthplace to the church where he sang, and from the place where he bought his first guitar to the Las Vegas hotel where he lived and gave his last concerts.”

New Dutch Citizens Share Their Experiences and Challenges of Integration

In addition, ‘new’ Dutch people are also expected to know a lot about society. That was not easy for Lucille May Curato, who came over from the Philippines five years ago. “I found that the most difficult part. You have to learn a lot of things about rules, politics, insurance, but also history,” she says. “It was hard, but I could do it.”

Both are happy with their Dutch passports. “It feels good,” Ceca describes. “I am the same person as before, but I now belong in this society. I was already allowed to live here because I had a residence permit. But having a passport sounds a bit different. I am now really a Dutch person.”

17-year-old Faiaz Dindar also had a special day. He was born here in the Netherlands, but only became a real citizen today. “I had to wait a while for it,” he says with a sense of understatement. “It was a combination of many processes. I had to travel a lot to other municipalities and IND buildings.”

His father is originally from Afghanistan. Because Faiaz grew up in the Netherlands, he learned the language very easily. However, there are still some cultural differences. “You know the Tikkie app, right? That’s the biggest difference. Many of my friends use that app, but I never do,” he jokes. Dutch thrift? “Yes haha.”
