Ukraine Claims Accomplished Strike on Major Fuel pipeline Near Moscow
KYIV, Ukraine – Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR) announced Saturday a successful strike targeting key fuel infrastructure in Russia’s Ramensky district, reportedly destroying three major fuel lines. The pipeline network had the capacity to transport up to 3 million tons of jet fuel, 2.8 million tons of diesel, and 1.6 million tons of gasoline annually, according to HUR.
The attack on the pipeline, a critical component of Russia’s fuel supply chain, comes as Moscow continues its sustained aerial bombardment of Ukraine, focusing heavily on energy infrastructure.Kyrylo Budanov, head of HUR, asserted that these Ukrainian strikes are proving more impactful than international sanctions imposed on Russia following its full-scale invasion of ukraine in February 2022. The disruption to fuel supplies coudl potentially impact Russia’s military logistics and broader economic activity.
Elsewhere in Ukraine, a civilian was killed and 15 others injured in a Russian ballistic missile strike on the Mykolaiv region Saturday morning, local official Vitaliy Kim reported. A child was among the injured, and authorities identified an Iskander missile as the weapon used. A separate Russian strike ignited a fire at a gas plant in the Poltava region, according to Ukraine’s emergency service.
These attacks are part of a larger pattern of intensified Russian strikes, including a massive overnight drone assault. The Ukrainian air force stated it intercepted 206 of 223 drones launched overnight into Saturday, with 17 reaching their targets across seven regions. Additionally, a 66-year-old woman was injured in a strike on an agricultural enterprise in the Chernihiv region.
Kyiv has characterized Russia’s ongoing attacks on its energy infrastructure as “systematic energy terror,” resulting in widespread power outages and restrictions earlier this week. The situation remains fluid as Ukraine continues to defend against Russian aggression and seeks to disrupt its adversary’s capabilities.
