California Coast Braces forโ Unseasonablyโ Cool Temperatures, Bay Area โSees Littleโ relief
Coastal California is experiencing a โnotable drop in temperatures this week, with โฃconditions expected to be 5 to โ15 degrees below normal, beginning Monday night. While Los Angeles residents may welcome the cooler airโข after recent heat โwaves, the โBay Area is facing a โขprolonged period of chilly weather, following what has already been โฃits coldest summer in decades.
Meteorologist Karleisa Rogacheskiโ ofโ the Nationalโ Weather Service confirmed the unusual forecast, noting that coastal California โtypically โexperiences its warmest weather after Labor Day. Typically, August averages โ0.3 degrees warmer than September, with aโข more noticeableโข drop in October, โaccording to meteorologistโ Devin Black.
Southern California will see the coldest temperatures bottom out on Wednesday, though aโค slight warming trendโ is possible towards the weekend. Highs could be up toโ 15 degrees below average. โlos Angeles can expect a thick marine โlayer and potential light drizzle Tuesday and Wednesday, while Santa Barbara โand Sanโ Luis โขObispo counties may experience light showers due โคto an approachingโ upper-level low-pressure system.
Theโ Bay Areaโ will also see a ample temperature decrease, with highs in the low 60s expectedโ in partsโ of San Francisco andโฃ mid-70s elsewhere. Sonomaโข and Napa โขcounties could also receive light showers.
This widespread cooling โcontrasts with conditions in inland areas, wich haveโ experienced monsoonal patterns – warm, moist โคair with limited rainfall. โฃThis combination โrecently fueled intense lightning activity, particularly โin Northern california near the Oregon andโฃ Nevada borders, sparking the TCU September Lightning Complex fire on September 2nd, which has โฃalready โคdestroyed nearly 100 structures and โขburned closeโค to 14,000 acres. Experts โขpredict these conditions will persist โin the far north even asโฃ the coastโ cools.
Despite the overall trend, aโค brief โrespite is possible for bay Area residents hopingโฃ for โaโฃ late-season beach day. Sunday is currently โforecast โฃto beโ warmer, thoughโฃ Rogacheski cautions that this warming may be short-lived. “Weโ still have the rest of September and intoโข October were we could see the later summer-type temperatures,” she said,”Butโ right nowโฆ the โforecast is โmore zonal flow, which could mean more status โquo.”
