A San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy was killed Monday afternoon after a fleeing motorcyclist allegedly shot him during a pursuit, authorities said. the suspect was deliberately forced off โtheโ motorcycle by an off-duty deputy,โ resulting in a high-speed crash.
The incident unfolded as deputies pursued a suspect on the 210 Freeway. At approximately 1:35 p.m., an off-duty sheriff’s deputy intervened legally, intentionallyโ colliding with the suspect to end the chase and causing the motorcyclist to crash, โaccording to Sheriff Shannon Dicus. The eastbound lanes of โthe 210 Freewayโ between Mountain Avenue and Campus Avenue were closed following the accident as investigators processed the scene.
Helicopter footage captured the moment the suspect โฃcollided with a black sedan while traveling atโฃ 70 miles per hour, being thrownโค from the motorcycle and landing on โขhis back. Paramedics transported the injured suspect via helicopter to a โฃlocal hospital. โThe condition of the suspect is currently unknown. The fallen deputy’s name hasโ not yet been released.
