Churachandpur, manipur – Structures erected to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his visit were pulled down and, in some instances, set ablaze in Churachandpur district on Thursday, September 11, 2025. The โincidents occurred along the โroute Mr. Modi’sโ convoy is โscheduled to โขtake from the โhelipad and back.
The acts of vandalism took place approximately 2 kilometers fromโ the Peace Ground in Churachandpur, where the Prime Minister is slated to address a public gathering. He is also scheduled toโ speak at Kangla Fort in Imphal following the Churachandpur event.Localโฃ sources reported โคa brief confrontation between police and the individuals responsible โคbefore they dispersed.โค District officialsโ were unavailable for comment.
Viralโค videos circulating onlineโ depict miscreants dismantling roadside structures and setting some of โthem onโค fire. One video shows a police officer โobserving the destructionโ without intervening.
Kuki-Zo organizations, including the Kuki Inpi Manipur and the Imphal Hmar Displaced โCommittee, welcomed Mr. Modi’s visit asโค “long overdue” but voiced opposition to a planned dance program at the official function, stating, “Our mourning is not yetโค over,โค our tears โขare not yet dried,โ our wounds โare โnot yetโฃ healed. Weโ cannot dance with joy.”
