written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Tata Motors launched the updated Punch EV facelift in India on February 20, 2026, with prices starting at ₹9.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), aiming to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in the country.

The new model offers two battery options: a 30 kWh unit delivering a range of 265 km, and a 40 kWh unit with an ARAI-certified range of 468 km. Real-world range for the 40 kWh variant is estimated at 355 km, according to Tata Motors.

Fast charging capabilities are included, with the ability to charge from 20% to 80% in 26 minutes using a 65 kW DC fast charger. A 15-minute fast charge can add up to 135 km of range.

A significant feature of the Punch EV facelift is a lifetime high-voltage battery warranty for the first owner, covering unlimited kilometers with the 40 kWh battery pack. This warranty is valid for 15 years from the date of registration.

The electric motor produces 130 PS of power, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in under nine seconds. The vehicle boasts a 195 mm ground clearance and a water-wading ability of 450 mm, with a restart gradeability of 32 percent.

Drivers can select from three driving modes – Eco, City, and Sport – and utilize four levels of regenerative braking controlled via paddle shifters.

Tata Motors has incorporated a new e-drive X-in-1 module, integrating six systems into a single unit. This design reduces the module’s size by approximately 50% and its weight by 28%, while improving efficiency by nearly 6%. The module also features a 30% reduction in electrical connections and a 40% decrease in the use of semiconductors.

The interior features a 26.03 cm Harman infotainment system with Arcade.ev 2.0 and a digital instrument panel supporting navigation. Ventilated leatherette front seats, a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, wireless smartphone connectivity, a voice-assisted sunroof, an air purifier, Alexa integration, and fast-charging USB-C ports are also included.

Safety features include six airbags, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), electronic stability program (ESP), hill hold assist, and ISOFIX mounts. Connected car features such as over-the-air updates, valet mode, vehicle health reports, trip analysis, remote commands, and e-call functionality are also available.

The exterior design includes a closed-off grille, redesigned bumpers, new wheel designs, an updated signature light bar, and a range of new exterior color options with a contrasting black roof.

The 30 kWh variant of the Tata Punch EV facelift is priced from ₹9.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), while the 40 kWh variant starts at ₹10.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai).

Suzuki eVitara Price Drop: India Gets Affordable EV with Battery-as-a-Service | Indonesia’s eVitara Costs More

by Priya Shah – Business Editor February 19, 2026
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Maruti Suzuki has launched a more affordable version of its e VITARA electric SUV in India, with prices starting at ₹10.99 lakh (approximately $1,320 USD) through a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, according to a press release issued February 17, 2026.

The BaaS program separates the cost of the vehicle from the battery, lowering the initial purchase price. Customers opting for the BaaS model pay ₹3.99 per kilometer (approximately $0.05 USD) for battery usage, in addition to the vehicle’s base price. This contrasts with previous pricing for the e VITARA, which started around ₹300,000 (approximately $3,600 USD) with a 49 kWh battery pack.

Maruti Suzuki’s NEXA edge package is included with the e VITARA, designed to enhance the ownership experience for electric vehicle customers. The package includes a complimentary 7.4 kW AC Wall Box Charger and installation, according to the company.

The e VITARA has achieved a five-star safety rating in Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) crash tests, Maruti Suzuki stated. The vehicle is available with two battery pack options: 48.8 kWh and 61.1 kWh, with the latter offering a claimed range of up to 543 km (approximately 337 miles).

The BaaS model is not unique to Maruti Suzuki. Polytron, an Indonesian manufacturer, similarly offers a similar battery subscription service for its G3 and G3+ electric vehicles, with a rental rate of Rp 800 per kilometer (approximately $0.05 USD) and a minimum monthly charge of Rp 1.2 million (approximately $75 USD). This reduces the upfront cost of Polytron’s G3 to Rp 299 million (approximately $18,800 USD) compared to Rp 419 million (approximately $26,300 USD) with battery purchase.

In contrast, Maruti Suzuki’s fully-equipped e VITARA, sold in Indonesia, carries a significantly higher price tag, starting at Rp 755 million (approximately $47,500 USD). This model features a 61 kWh LFP battery, providing a range of up to 428 km (approximately 266 miles) on a full charge and supports both AC Type 2 and DC CCS2 charging standards.

by Priya Shah – Business Editor February 17, 2026
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Indonesia’s Polytron has begun offering its domestically-branded electric vehicles, the G3 and G3+, to consumers, marking a significant step in the country’s developing EV market. The vehicles, a collaboration between Polytron and Skyworth K EV, are available through both traditional purchase and subscription models, with prices starting at 329.5 million Indonesian Rupiah (approximately $20,600 USD) for the G3 under a subscription plan.

Without the subscription option, the Polytron G3 is priced at 461.5 million Rupiah ($28,900 USD), although the G3+ model starts at 505.5 million Rupiah ($31,700 USD). These prices are valid for on-the-road costs in Jakarta, with potential variations in other regions of the archipelago.

The Polytron G3 and G3+ are sizable SUVs, measuring 4.720 meters in length, 1.908 meters in width, and 1.696 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2.800 meters. The vehicles offer 1,141 liters of cargo space and feature an electronic tailgate with a kick sensor. Both models are equipped with a 51.196 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and a 150 kW electric motor, promising a range of up to 402 kilometers (approximately 250 miles).

Polytron claims a maximum speed of 150 km/h (93 mph) and an acceleration time of 9.6 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h. Charging times are reported as less than 35 minutes for a 20-80% charge using a DC prompt charger. AC charging takes under 3.5 hours for the G3+ variant, while the G3 requires a longer charging duration.

Safety features include Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) Level 2 technology, incorporating 14 functions such as auto parking assistance, autonomous emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, emergency lane keeping assist, safe exit warning, blind spot detection, auto brake hold, and driver fatigue reminder.

The launch of the Polytron G3 and G3+ follows Skyworth’s commencement of vehicle production in Indonesia, signaling a growing commitment to local EV manufacturing. The Polytron G3 is expected to be available soon, according to BitAuto Global.

BYD Denza B5: Launching Soon in Indonesia? – Specs & Details

by Priya Shah – Business Editor February 15, 2026
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

BYD has registered the Denza B5 brand in Indonesia, signaling a potential launch of the plug-in hybrid SUV in the country, according to filings with the Indonesian Directorate General of Intellectual Property.

The Chinese automaker, BYD Company Limited, filed the trademark for “Denza B5” in June 2024, with protection valid until June 2034. The registration categorizes the Denza B5 as a motor vehicle, according to data from the Directorate General of Intellectual Property.

BYD showcased the Denza B5 at a recent Indonesian automotive exhibition held in ICE, BSD, Tangerang, but has not yet officially launched the vehicle. Luther Panjaitan, Head of PR and Government at BYD Indonesia, stated the company is gathering market feedback before introducing the SUV to Indonesian consumers. “We want to get good feedback as soon as possible so You can bring it to the Indonesian market,” Panjaitan said at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2026.

BYD is taking a cautious approach to the Indonesian market, preferring to study potential consumer reception before a full-scale launch. “We don’t want to be too hasty or rushed,” Panjaitan explained. The Denza B5 is already available in global markets, but BYD aims to tailor its introduction to the specific needs and preferences of Indonesian buyers.

The Denza B5 is a plug-in hybrid SUV built on BYD’s Dual-Mode Off-road (DMO) platform, combining a body-on-frame structure with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The vehicle features a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine paired with two electric motors and all-wheel drive, producing a combined output of 425 kW and 760 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. The Denza B5 is equipped with a BYD Blade battery with a capacity of 31.8 kWh, offering a range of 90 km on electric power alone.

BYD opted to initially showcase the Denza B5 at the BCA Expo 2026 in January, rather than the larger IIMS 2026 in February, to target a premium consumer segment and gather direct feedback. “At the BCA Expo, they really segment the premium market. We want to get direct feedback from that market,” Panjaitan said. BYD used IIMS 2026 to launch a new variant of its Atto 3 model, the Advanced Plus.

Suzuki e-Vitara Price Justified: SIS Highlights Exclusivity & Craftsmanship

by Priya Shah – Business Editor February 14, 2026
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS) is defending the price point of its newly launched electric vehicle, the e-Vitara, which starts at Rp 755 million (on the road Jakarta). The price has drawn scrutiny, but SIS maintains the cost reflects the vehicle’s exclusivity and capabilities.

“The price represents the exclusivity and capabilities of Suzuki,” said Donny Saputra, Deputy Marketing Director at SIS, during a press event at the Indonesia International Motor Present (IIMS) 2026 in Jakarta. “That is the key.”

The e-Vitara marks Suzuki’s first foray into the Indonesian electric vehicle market, representing a key step in the company’s “multi-pathway” strategy for environmentally friendly vehicles. Saputra characterized the vehicle as a “historic product” for Suzuki, both in Indonesia and globally. He suggested that purchasing an e-Vitara isn’t simply acquiring a vehicle, but also “a piece of Suzuki history.”

“Given that the e-Vitara is part of the history of Suzuki, one of the steps in our multi-pathway approach to entering the EV market, when consumers buy an e-Vitara, they are not only getting the unit, but also a piece of Suzuki’s history,” Saputra explained.

SIS emphasized its 50 years of experience in the Indonesian automotive industry and its established reputation for craftsmanship as justification for the e-Vitara’s price. The company highlighted its expertise in vehicle manufacturing as a core component of the vehicle’s value.

The Suzuki e-Vitara boasts a 128 kW electric motor producing 193 Nm of torque. It’s powered by a 61 kWh battery, offering a range of 426 km. The vehicle was officially launched at IIMS 2026, with pricing ranging from Rp 755 million to Rp 758 million.

Japanese automakers, including Suzuki, are increasingly focused on challenging the dominance of Chinese rivals in the Indonesian automotive market, according to recent reports. This push comes as Indonesia emerges as a significant market for electric vehicles.
