Search Intensifies Based on Former Worker’s Claims
Authorities in Belthangady have concluded a second day of excavations at multiple sites believed to be burial locations, following a former sanitation worker’s allegations. Despite extensive digging, no human remains have been discovered thus far.
Special Investigation Team Leads Search
The operations are being overseen by a special investigation team headed by DGP **Pranab Mohanti** of the Domestic Security Department. He indicated that the investigation is in its early stages.
Extensive Excavation Underway
A total of 13 locations have been identified for excavation in the forest area. These sites were pointed out by a former sanitation worker who claims they were used to bury the bodies of girls. Digging commenced on Tuesday and continued through Wednesday.
Forensic Experts Join Investigation
Forensic experts are actively involved in the meticulous examination of the excavated areas. Revenue officials, under the leadership of Commissioner (Revenue) **Varghese**, are also present to support the team.
Unidentified Buried Bodies of Girls: A Lingering Mystery
The investigation stems from claims that multiple girls’ bodies were interred near the Netravati River in Belthangady. The search, involving police and forensic specialists, aims to uncover evidence related to these allegations.
The search follows a pattern seen in other missing persons cases. For instance, in 2023, the discovery of human remains in a rural area of Pennsylvania, following a tip-off about a potential burial site, brought closure to a decade-old missing persons case. Such investigations often rely heavily on forensic science to identify victims and perpetrators.
Despite the lack of findings, the investigation team is expected to continue its efforts. The marked areas in the forest palace have been dug from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
