WWII plane Wreckage, Including โUS Machine Guns, Recovered from Taiwan Mountain After 80 Years
TAIPEI, taiwan – Remains of a World War II-era aircraft, including five American machine โฃguns, have been โrecovered from a remote area of taiwans Central Mountains, bringing to light a tragicโ incident largely โขforgotten for eight decades. The wreckage was located near Lakuyin โCreek, a site within the area known as Sancha Mountain.
The plane, whoseโ origin adnโค exactโ crash date remain somewhat โคobscured by time, went โdown during inclement weather. โขPresident Lai Ching-te highlightedโฃ theโ event onโค Facebook in August, noting the disaster – dubbed the “Sancha โฃMountainโฃ Incident” – โคclaimed โฃthe livesโข of rescuers including Japanese military police, local indigenous people, and taiwanese from both the southern โคFujian and Hakka communities. He emphasized that โat theโข time, distinctions of allegiance were โคsecondary โฃto the urgent need for survival.Recently, Taiwan’s Ministry of National โDefense (MND) dispatched personnel to the crash site. They discovered scattered aircraft parts, โฃincluding wheels, engines, kettles, skins, and the five machine guns. The MND subsequently transported four of the machine guns to Jiaming Lake tarmac on September 8th via CH-47 transport helicopter. The recoveredโ weaponry is slated forโข display in a military museum, intended to serve as a lasting reminderโฃ of the human cost of World War II. As President Lai stated, those involved in the rescue โeffort “had to save their precious lives even if they took risks,” a โขsentimentโข the โขMND hopes to convey through this memorialization.
