Activist โฃWife’s Criticism Fuels Debate Over On-Air โขCommentary on Gaza โคConflict
Amsterdam -โข Minouche van โขder Gijp, wife of television personality Renรฉโ van โขder Gijp, has publicly condemned commentator Wierd โDuk‘s stance โฃon the conflict inโฃ Gaza, accusing himโฃ of minimizing the severity of the situationโค andโค expressing extreme views. Her criticism, sharedโฃ via Instagram Stories and reported by NOS, has sparked discussion about โคplatforming controversial opinions and the balance between โฃpersonal freedoms andโ accountability inโฃ media coverage of the โongoing crisis.
Van der Gijp โฃhighlighted a UN commitee’s recent assessment, stating Israel is “guilty of genocide” in the Gaza โขStrip,as reported by NOS.โ She directly criticized Duk and fellow commentator Bram Moszkowicz, alleging they โฃdenyโ theโ gravity of the situation despite knowing the truth. โ”Of course โขnot all where, according to the โคbrams and the wierdjesโฆ โWhile of course they know deep in their hearts that this is the โcase. But actually they are to cowardly toโ say on TV that they โjust don’t care. โคJustโ keep denying. Inhumane crazy people are,” she โwrote.
Van der โฃGijp called for a cessation of providing a platform for Duk โand Moszkowicz to express what she described as “extreme right-wing views,” suggesting โขher โviews may โhave influenced her husband’s willingness to appear alongside Duk on the VI program. โ”Let’s no longer give these people a platform where theyโ can ventilateโ their extreme right-wing views.Let โus all continue to fight for human value in which you can be a little left โคor right in this country where you have freedom of expression,โ but never to the point where you approve children are slaughtered.”
She further stated โฃherโ strong disapproval of duk’s commentary, saying,”People who continue to cram nonsense on TVโข that noโ genocide is being โcommitted,I pull vrey badly.” Van der โขGijp clarified she is not antisemitic, stating, “I am not an anti-Semite.โฃ I โขdon’t hateโข the Jewish community. Far from. But Zionists, the Israeli government and the IDFโ are all allowed to burn in hell.”
Van der Gijpโ acknowledged influencing her husband with her “left-wing ideas,” but emphasized Renรฉ vanโ der Gijpโฃ is capable of forming his own opinions. “As if myโ husband โhas no โขopinion. Well, then you don’tโค know my husband. Heโ can stand up for โhimself and ventilate his opinion.”โฃ She noted theirโค conversations regarding Gaza areโ “more nuanced” โขdue to her more active role as an โactivist.
Despite the serious nature of her statements, โฃVan โder Gijp also addressed criticism โขregarding her social media posts, acknowledging the contrast between sharing vacation photos from Ibiza and highlighting โคthe atrocities in Gaza. “Fcking that there is no balance โขin it. But that is โmy life. I am inโค a โฃprivileged position where I can travel, โbut thatโ does notโ mean that I โclose my eyes to what happens to the Palestinian population. *Free Palestine.”
