UK Justice ministry to Deploy ChatGPT, Aiming for Efficiency gains
LONDON – The UK’s Ministry of Justice (MoJ) โhas signed a ยฃ6.75 million, two-year contract โto integrate ChatGPT โEnterpriseโ into itsโฃ operations, seeking to streamline processes and reduce administrative burdens.โ The โฃmove signals a meaningful step in โขthe government’s broader strategy to โleverage โฃartificial intelligence โขacross โคpublic services.
The adoption of OpenAI’s technology, commencing in โฃOctober 2025, formsโ part of a โwider initiative to moderniseโ the justice system and boost theโค UK’s AI capabilities. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and development (OECD) estimates AI could contribute between ยฃ70bn and ยฃ140bn to the UK economy by 2030.Techโ secretary Liz Kendall described theโฃ deal as โ”a step further inโ delivering the infrastructure we need โคto power AI here in Britain, transforming publicโ services, driving growthโ and unlocking opportunities for every community.”
Beyond the MoJโ contract, the government intends to establish โคAI growth zones nationwide toโ attract private investment and provide upskilling opportunities forโข over seven million workers by the โend of โthe decade. This builds on OpenAI’s recent commitment to expand its UK presence through ‘stargate UK’, a partnership with Nvidia and Nscale to buildโ domestic AI infrastructure capable of hosting OpenAI’s most advanced models. The first phase of โข’stargate UK’ willโข deploy up to 8,000 Nvidia GPUs early nextโค year, scaling to 31,000 over time, โคcentered in the North East’s โnew ‘AI growth zone’.
industry analysts suggest the MoJ’s decision to โadoptโค ChatGPT Enterprise, alongside the new local data residency initiatives, โฃcould encourage other departments and heavily regulated โฃsectors – including finance and healthcare – to explore similar โฃAI-powered solutions. The government aims to balance innovation with data security โขand national control as it embraces AI to enhance productivity.
