“Dzirnas” Dance School Marks 40 Years with Ambitious “Indulis and โคฤria” โPerformance – Lente.lv
Riga – โThe “Dzirnas” dance schoolโข is celebrating โฃits 40th anniversary with a large-scale performance, “Indulis and ฤria,” a contemporary dance interpretationโ of โRainis’ โขclassic tragedy. The production, set โคto premiere on โขLฤฤplฤลก Day,โ promises a fusionโค of dance, live music, โฃvisual art, and video scenography.
Founded in 1984,”Dzirnas” has evolved from a dance group to a full-fledgedโข dance school, opening the “Mill” studio in โRiga inโข 2002. Today, โฃthe school offers training in a diverse range of danceโ styles including classical dance, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, modern dance, and breakdance. “Dzirnas” aims to cultivate “worldwide dancers” capable of expressive and uniquely characterized performance.
Theโ anniversary performance, “indulis and ฤria,”โ is directed by Intars Reลกetins-Petersons and โchoreographed by Agris Daniฤผeviฤs.โ The creative team โalso โincludes composer Valters Pลซce, stage โฃdesigner Aigars Ozoliลลก, video artistโฃ Ineta Sipunova, and costume designer Janaโ ฤivลพelis. The production aims to create a dialog between Rainis’ workโข and โcontemporary dance, exploring โคthemes of love, duty, andโค freedom.
“Rainis asks more questions than he gives answers, he โdoes not give in so easily. The questions โขhe touched areโข still relevant,” stated choreographer Agrisโ Daniฤผeviฤs.
The โperformance will feature over 600 dancers, encompassing current and former “Dzirnieลกi” (students ofโ “Dzirnas”), their families, and dancers from other collectives. Musical accompaniment will be provided by “Sinfonietta Rฤซga” and the youth choir “BALSIS,” performing original music composed by Valtersโ Pลซce. Arena-scale projections and a dynamic light design willโ contribute โto an โขimmersive experience.
Notably, the โฃperformance will see dancers who previously performed together as aโ pair reunite on stage, separated by over 20 years.
Leading “Dzirnas” are director Singita Danileviฤa,โ affectionately knownโ asโ “Dzirnu โคmamma” by the dancers,โ and Agris daniฤผeviฤs, a โdance teacher and choreographer. Daniฤผeviฤs, a Knight of the Orderโ of the Three Stars, has substantially contributed to Latvian dance โart โthroughโ his choreographies featured in the General Latvian Song and Dance Festival and Schoolโข Youth Song and โขDance Festival. Singita Danileviฤa has served as director sinceโข 2011, having previously managed a dance studio affiliated with “Dzirnas” from 2003 to 2011. Agris Daniฤผeviฤs celebrated his 62nd birthday on October 26th.
