Winter Olympics: ‘Joke’ Conditions, Bobsleigh Carnage & Klæbo’s Gold Rush – Day 15 Updates

Livigno, Italy – Canadian ski cross racer Reece Howden branded conditions at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics an “absolute joke” Saturday, after being eliminated in the quarterfinal stage of the men’s ski cross event. The criticism came as heavy snowfall disrupted multiple events, including a postponement of the women’s freeski halfpipe final and a series of crashes in the four-man bobsleigh heats.

Howden, the reigning World Cup Crystal Globe winner, expressed his frustration to Canadian Olympic broadcaster CBC, stating, “Honestly, the weather is ridiculous. I don’t know what the times are but it’s gotta be like 10 to 15 seconds slower. It’s a completely different course.” He added, “It’s snowing so hard and the track is dead slow. At this point, I’m happy I’m not involved in this [final] race because… Here’s not ski cross. This is terrible. Olympics is supposed to be the best of the best. The peak of our sport. I’ll wait four more years because this is an absolute joke.”

The complaints weren’t isolated to Howden. Kevin Drury, also competing for Canada, echoed the sentiment after his own quarterfinal exit. According to Olympic.ca, Drury stated, “If they wanted to put on a show, which they always say they do, this is not the show.” He added that he was “really starting to figure this course out” before the conditions deteriorated.

The challenging conditions led to a disappointing day for the entire Canadian ski cross team, with all four entries failing to advance past the quarterfinals. This marks the first time since the event’s Olympic debut in 2010 that Canada has not placed an athlete on the podium in ski cross.

The weather also impacted other events. Organizers postponed the women’s freeski halfpipe final, originally scheduled for Saturday morning, until Sunday evening, citing the inability to “prepare the pipe in a safe and fair condition.” This delay came after several events in the mountain region were already postponed earlier in the week due to inclement weather.

The Cortina Sliding Centre also saw dramatic events during the four-man bobsleigh heats. Three sleds crashed in the second round, including those piloted by Austria’s Jakob Mandlbauer, France’s Romain Heinrich, and Trinidad and Tobago’s Axel Brown. Mandlbauer was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation after his crash, with Austrian officials reporting he had movement in his extremities. The crashes resulted in the disqualification of the French and Trinidadian teams, preventing them from competing in Sunday’s event.

Elsewhere, Polish short track speed skater Kamila Sellier sustained a facial cut during a crash in the women’s 1,500-meter quarterfinal. She was treated on the ice and subsequently admitted to hospital, posting on Instagram that she was “doing quite OK” and thanking supporters.

A separate incident involved a Czechoslovakian wolfdog named Nazgul, who escaped from his home and ran onto the cross-country course during a biathlon event, briefly joining the skiers on the finishing straight. While the incident caused a “panic moment” for the dog’s owners, it was largely met with amusement.

Olimpiadi Milano Cortina 2026: Brignone d’oro, Italia raggiunge le 20 medaglie

Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy – Federica Brignone secured her second gold medal of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics on Friday, dominating the women’s giant slalom. The victory comes just days after her triumph in the Super-G, solidifying her position as a leading figure in the Games.

Brignone finished the two runs with a total time of 2:07.89, besting German Lena Dürr by 0.34 seconds. Sofia Goggia, also of Italy, claimed the third spot on the podium, finishing 0.46 seconds behind Brignone. The Italian team’s success continued with Lara Della Mea finishing just off the podium in fourth place.

The win brings Italy’s medal count to 20, equaling the national record set at the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics. Italy now holds seven gold, three silver, and ten bronze medals, placing them second in the medal standings behind Norway.

The day also saw success for the Italian men’s 4×7.7km cross-country skiing team, who secured a bronze medal. Federico Pellegrino anchored the team to a third-place finish, overtaking Finland in the final stretch. The team’s performance was bolstered by strong legs from Davide Graz, Elia Brap, and Martino Carollo.

In short track speed skating, the Italian women’s 3,000m relay team – comprised of Arianna Fontana, Elisa Confortola, Chiara Betti, and Arianna Sighel – qualified for Wednesday’s final, finishing second in their semifinal heat behind the Netherlands.

Although, there was disappointment for Pietro Sighel in the men’s 1500m. Sighel was involved in a crash during his quarterfinal heat, caused by contact with an athlete from the Netherlands, which also impacted an Ukrainian skater. While the Ukrainian skater was reinstated to the semifinals, Sighel was not.

In a historic moment for the Games, Lucas Pinheiro Braathen of Brazil won the men’s giant slalom at Bormio, marking the first-ever Olympic gold medal for a South American athlete in a Winter Games event.

The Italian delegation continues to compete across multiple disciplines, including biathlon, snowboard, and skeleton, with further events scheduled throughout the week. The biathlon team, however, faced setbacks in the men’s pursuit event, with Tommaso Giacomel finishing ninth.

Martina Di Centa, daughter of six-time Olympic medalist Giorgio Di Centa, announced her retirement from competitive cross-country skiing following the Games, citing a desire to focus on family commitments.

The Elvis film, directed by Baz Luhrmann, premiered in the United States on June 24, 2022, following a screening held June 15 at Hudson Yards in New York City. The movie stars Austin Butler, alongside Tom Hanks, Helen Thomson, and Richard Roxburgh. A clip from the film featuring Butler recreating Elvis Presley’s performance of “Jailhouse Rock” circulated widely on social media prior to the premiere.

The Funko Pop figure depicts Presley during the iconic “Jailhouse Rock” performance, a 1957 song and scene considered revolutionary for its energetic choreography and rebellious imagery. The listing specifies the item is an original, autographed piece from the movie, signed by Austin Butler.

A video of Austin Butler performing “Jailhouse Rock” as Elvis Presley is available on YouTube, garnering over 15,000 views as of February 14, 2026. The performance has been widely praised for Butler’s accurate portrayal of the King of Rock and Roll.

The eBay listing notes the seller, Lost Panels Comics and Collectibles, does not accept returns and does not ship to Finland. The seller maintains a 100% positive feedback rating based on 43 sales, with one recent buyer praising the seller’s honesty regarding a minor imperfection in the figure’s packaging.
