Diwali Travel Disrupted as Air India Cancels Milan-Delhi Flight, Stranding Passengers
Milan, Italy – Hundreds of passengers traveling to India for the Diwali festival are facing meaningful disruptions after Air India cancelled flight AI138 from Milan to Delhi on Friday, October 17.The airline cited an “extended technical requirement” as the reason for the cancellation, stating the decision was made to prioritize passenger safety.
Affected passengers were provided with hotel accommodations, though limited availability resulted in some being housed away from the airport.Air India is working to rebook travelers on flights beginning october 20, utilizing both its own services and partner airlines where possible.
The airline proactively addressed visa concerns for some passengers, including one individual whose Schengen visa was set to expire on October 20, by securing a seat on another airline departing Milan on October 19.
“We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused and reaffirm our commitment to the safety and well-being of our passengers and crew,” an Air India spokesperson saeid. The airline is continuing to provide meals and ground assistance to those impacted.
The cancellation comes during a peak travel period ahead of Diwali, leaving many passengers scrambling to adjust their plans to reach India in time for the celebrations.
