KANSAS CITY, Mo.(KCTV/KFVS) -โข Catherine Hanaway made historyโฃ Monday โคasโข she โขwas sworn โin as Missouri‘s first female attorneyโ general, and the first woman appointed to a major statewideโข office under Governor Mike kehoe.Hanaway, a former state representative and speaker of the Missouri House, โtakes office following the departureโ ofโ Andrew โBailey, who announced he is stepping down to become โขco-deputy director ofโ the FBI. โHer appointment marks a significantโฃ shift in leadership for the Attorneyโ General’s office, whichโฃ has seen โขfour different individuals serve in the role since 2018.
“My priorities are pretty clear,” Hanaway stated. “I want to fight crime,โฃ and then I want toโฃ protect Missourians. โขProtecting Missourians โคincludes protecting our constitutional rights.”
Hanaway, 61, emphasized her commitment to the office and its personnel. “I don’t view thisโ as a political position so much as I โview this as โa job withโ some pretty specific duties,” she said.”And that’sโค why I wanted to get โright โdown to work andโ focus not only on โdoing my job,โฃ but focus on the men and women who serve the state in the โAttorney โGeneral’s office.”
