Nationals Announce Front Office Changes: DeBartolo to Remain,Longosz & Scialabba Depart
The Washington โNationals are undergoing front office restructuringโ following the hiring of Paul Toboni โas President of โBaseball operations. Assistant General Managersโข Eddie Longosz and Mark Scialabba will not be returning to the institution,as reported by The Athletic’s Britt โขghiroli. However, โAssistant GM Mike DeBartolo will remain with the Nationals.
These departures are part of a broader shift within the โฃorganization, with several scoutsโ and staff members in Florida also โexpected โto leave. The changesโข began prior to Toboni’s arrival two weeks ago, with the departuresโ ofโฃ former scouting director Dannyโ Haas (to the Orioles) and senior director of amateur scouting Brad Ciolek (to the Tigers) in september.
longosz joined the Nationals in 2010 and โserved as Director of Scouting Operations for โขeight seasons โbefore โbeing promoted to Assistant General Manager and Vice President in 2023, specifically overseeing player advancementโฃ and administration. Scialabba’s tenure with the team beganโข even earlier, in 2006. He held the role of โขDirector of Minor League Operations from 2009-2013, then led the โขplayer development department starting โin 2013, and became Assistant GM of Player โDevelopment after the 2019 season.
The moves follow a previous โขfront office โoverhaul initiated by former Nationals executive Mike Rizzo several years ago, though both โขLongosz and Scialabba remained โwith the team through that period. The extent of furtherโข changes to โคRizzo’s former โคstaff under Toboni remains to be seen.
