Isle of man TT to Celebrate John McGuinness‘โ 30 Years of Racing
The Classic โTT is setโ to honor 30 years โขof John McGuinness’ racing career on the Isle of Man in 2026. This follows a 2024 โคevent commemorating the 25th anniversary of Joey Dunlop’s historic โฃtriple win in 1999 – achieving victories in the Ultra-Lightweight, โขLightweight, and TT-Formula 1 classes.Dunlop tragically died shortly after in Estonia.
This year’s Classic TT included a planned tribute to Dunlop, featuring a exhibition lap by his nephew, Michael Dunlop, riding a replica of the 2000 Honda VTR SP1.However, the demonstration, along โwith the Formula 1 Classic TT and senior Classic TT races, were cancelled due to โdangerous track conditions following heavy rainfall.
Looking ahead, the 2026 classic TT will center around McGuinness’ milestone. In 2007, during the 100th anniversaryโ of the Tourist Trophy race, the Honda โfactory pilot achieved a Senior TT victory onโค theโ Snaefell Mountain Course, averaging โover 130 miles per hour.
To recreate this โiconic moment, McGuinness, ageโ 54 at the time, will complete a special lap of honor in 2026 โฃusing the sameโ motorcycle, leathers, gloves, and helmet he โwore in 2007. Recognized asโ both a road racing โicon and a global ambassador โfor the Tourist Trophy, McGuinness โขwill revisit a defining moment in โTT history.
Alongside the on-track tribute, a unique exhibition โwill showcase motorcycles, memorabilia, and memories from McGuinness’ 30-year career, highlighting his meaningful impact on the Tourist Trophy bothโ on and off the racetrack.
