Mercedes-Benz Launches Extended-wheelbase Electric CLA L in China
Mercedes-Benz has begun sales of the all-electric CLA L in China, offering an extended wheelbase version of its compact sedan. The CLA L measures 4.76 meters in length with a 2.83-metre wheelbase – 40 millimeters longer than the standard model. This extended wheelbase provides increased rear passengerโฃ space, a feature previously reserved for Mercedes-Benz’s C-Class and higher-end sedans.
Two variants are currently available: the CLA 300 L Ultra-Long range Edition, priced at 259,000 yuan (approximately โฌ31,000), and the CLA 300 L โUltra-Long Range Smart Edition, costing 299,000 yuan (around โฌ35,700). Both models feature โคrear-wheel drive, a 200 kW motor, a two-speed โฃtransmission, and an 85 kWh Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) battery.Utilizing 800-volt technology, the battery supports charging speeds up too 320 kW.
Range estimates are โ866 kilometers โฃbased on the Chinese CLTC cycle, andโค 792 kilometers when measured against theโฃ more stringent โEuropean WLTP standard.
A dual-motor, all-wheel drive version, the CLA 350 4MATIC (260 kW), is planned for release, though its Chinese name and pricing remain unconfirmed. The potential availability โof a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery variant is currently unconfirmed and remains speculative.
The CLA L is builtโข inโ china and utilizes the Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA) platform. It also โincorporates software developed by the Shanghai Research and advancement Center, offering features tailored toโ theโข Chinese market, including advanced driver-assistance systems and autonomousโฃ driving capabilities.
For comparison, the electric CLA is priced around โฌ60,000 in the Europeanโ market, making the Chinese market offeringโข significantly more affordable.
