The research looked at the effects of the new eating plan on prediabetic adults for six weeks, and found that those on the Mediterranean keto diet had lower levels of GABA-producing microbes and higher levels of GABA-regulating microbes. GABA regulates brain activity, and is particularly problematic for people with Alzheimer’s when it is not functioning properly.
