The outbreak is impacting 25 states and 125 municipalities, with Chihuahua experiencing the highest concentration of cases – 4,402 confirmed diagnoses and an additional 6,065 considered probable. This escalating situation has prompted the Pan American Health Institution (PAHO) to identify Mexico as having the highest measles mortality rate in the Americas and the second-highest number of infections as of 2025.
The SSa report indicates a near-even distribution of cases between genders (48.6% male, 51.4% female), but highlights a disproportionate impact on infants and young children. “Confirmed cases of measles affect both sexes…Regarding the number of cases, the main age group affected is 0 to 4 years of age,” the report states.
health officials are urging increased vaccination efforts to curb the spread of the highly contagious disease and prevent further fatalities.
