During an interview exceeding an hour, Márton Tompos indicated that the opportune moment for Momentum to emerge should arrive in the coming months. This statement preceded András Fekete-Győr’s assertion that the party should not commence its campaign in 2026.
Conversations suggested a prevailing desire among Momentum’s leadership to contest the 2026 elections as a representative of liberal voters. Ultimately, however, the party’s delegate assembly resolved not to participate in the 2026 elections, stating their intention “not to stand in the path of the change of regime.”
In recent weeks, several Momentum politicians, including Márton Tompos, Ferenc Gelencsér, and András Fekete-Győr, have publicly claimed that Fidesz offered the party financial incentives in exchange for their withdrawal from the political arena, an offer they reportedly refused. Notably, during interviews conducted in the spring, none of these politicians made similar statements or alluded to such propositions.
