Heriot-Watt University researchers have found a way to tackle the mountains of waste created by medical masks using a new method that involves air and electricity. The technique can replace incineration, which is expensive and harmful to the environment, and instead use a cold plasma system that requires only around 200 watts of electricity, equivalent to playing on a PlayStation. The team at Heriot-Watt University developed a low-power air plasma way that could degrade surgical masks in four hours, with 90% of the face mask gone. Before the pandemic, every tonne of medical waste costs around £450 to dispose of in the UK, but the system is more energy-efficient and cost-effective, and could be used at a larger scale in the future.

Pedro Cavadas’ notice about masks and coronavirus vaccine reactions
“Take off the mask? Removing the mask may be optional in two years.” Pedro Cavadas warned at the end of 2020 that the coronavirus pandemic coronavirus and, with it, the mandatory use of the mask, was going long.
The surgeon who warned of the danger of the covid When not a single contagion had been detected in Spain, he hit the mark again with his prediction, which is now once again topical given the Government’s decision to make the use of masks more flexible in certain areas.
As of February 2023, the Ministry of Health admits in the latest update of official statistics 13.74 million confirmed cases of coronavirus and 118,712 registered deaths in our country as a result of the pandemic.
This Wednesday, February 8, the mandatory use of the mask in public transport, orthopedics, hearing centers and opticians. However, the Government maintains the use of face masks in the health field (hospitals, health centers or dentists) and in nursing homes.
In addition, as reported by ABC this Tuesday, companies will continue to have the power to impose the mask on their employees.
In the case of the Valencian Community, the Generalitat persists today in the imposition of some of the covid restrictions decreed in the summer of 2020, such as the ban on smoking on the terraces of establishments that carry out hotel, restaurant, and leisure and entertainment activities.
The World Health Organization (WHO) decided earlier this year to maintain the situation of global emergency due to covid. One of the reasons given is the rise in mortality detected in the last quarter. Behind the persistence of the coronavirus is the irregular distribution of vaccines.
Pedro Cavadas He not only correctly predicted that the masks had come to stay for a long time in Spain as it has happened. The surgeon, who is part of the forbes list of the best doctors, also warned that the doses of the coronavirus vaccines would take “several years” to reach the entire world population.
The Valencian doctor, considered as one of the best specialists in the world in the field of reconstructive surgery, it established the term of “four years” at the end of 2020 to achieve a fully effective (safe and useful) vaccine and warned of the effects and adverse reactions that the doses of the remedy could cause before the covid.
Pedro CavadasHowever, he publicly admitted that he had been vaccinated (in his case with Moderna) and criticized the deniers of the coronavirus.
