Marcus Morris Sr. Fraud Charges Dropped After Casino Debt Repayment
LAS VEGAS, NV – Fraud adn theft charges against former NBA player Marcus Morris sr. have been dismissed after he fully repaid outstanding debts to the MGM Grand and wynn Las vegas casinos, KLAS-TV reports. The resolution comes after Morris, 35, was arrested at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in July following allegations of insufficient funds to cover $265,000 in gambling debts.
Morris initially wrote checks totaling $115,000 to the MGM Grand in May 2024 and $150,000 to the Wynn Las vegas in June 2024 to secure lines of credit for gambling. When the checks bounced, he faced two felony counts in each case: drawing or passing a check for over $1,200 with intent to defraud, and theft exceeding $100,000.
The player took to Instagram last week to address the situation, stating his intention was never to defraud the casinos, but rather a delay in repayment. He explained the mechanics of “markers” – casino credit – emphasizing that no cash was withdrawn. “I would pay [anything] to stay outta jail,” Morris posted, adding “Money paid back and lesson learned. FRAUD, I can’t live with.” He also detailed being held for 51 hours in lockdown without food or water.
Morris expressed frustration that the casinos pursued legal action rather of contacting him directly, noting his long-standing, high-roller status at both establishments.Throughout his 13-year NBA career, Morris played for the boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, Philadelphia 76ers, Los angeles Clippers, and Cleveland Cavaliers. He finished the 2023/24 season with the Cavaliers but remained unsigned as of August 9, 2025.
