Driver in Pepperdine Student โขMurders Denied Bail Reduction for Karen Read Attorney
LOS โANGELES – Fraser Bohm,โ the driver accused of murdering four Pepperdine University students in a high-speed โcrash last year, was denied a reduction in his $4 million bail on Monday, despiteโฃ seeking funds to retain โattorney William Jackson – recently successful in the โKaren Read โcase. A judge determined Bohm had not demonstrated sufficient grounds โfor lowering bail, according to courtโ records.
The decision comes as Bohm faces four โcounts of murder stemming from the October 2023 crash โคon the pacific Coast Highway, where โคprosecutors allege he was driving 104 mph when his BMW โstruck the students,โ who wereโข walking home.Bohm’s defense team argued a reduced bail โคwas necessary to secure Jackson, whose legal strategies led toโค the acquittal of Read, charged with the death of her Boston police officer boyfriend. โคThe case has drawn national attention,โค particularly given Jackson’s high profile and โthe complexities surrounding the โคalleged circumstances of the โคcrash.
Bohm’s formerโฃ attorney previously claimed video evidence โsuggested โคhe was being chased by another driver in a road rage incident prior to the collision. However, the Los Angeles โCounty District Attorney’s Office maintains ther is no evidence to support this claim.
Jackson, speaking afterโ Monday’s hearing, stated the judge’s decision would not deter the defense โฃand that hisโค team is “looking forward to our moment โฆ โขto get the truth out.”โค Bohm’s next โขcourt appearance is scheduled for October 8.The four students killed in theโ crash wereโ identified as Deslyn Williams,Niamh Rolston, and two others whose โnames have not been widely released.
