Red White Erfurt loses his best six this winter! Samuel Biek (26) is moving to second division team Miami FC in the US state of Florida, returning to America, where he studied.

IMAGE: Why Miami?

Biek: I wanted to go back to the USA. My wife is American, her sister is pregnant. We just wanted to be closer to her family. When the offer came from Florida, it was immediately clear: we’ll do it!

Is it a career step forward for you as a footballer?

Definitely. My goal is to continue to make a name for myself there. I can also recommend Major League Soccer (MLS) over the second division in Miami. And sure, I want to live in the USA. Miami is perfect for me as a footballer; football is on the rise in the city. Not just thanks Lionel Messi. The Copa America final will take place in Miami next year and it will then be the venue for the World Cup in 2026.

When will the duel between Biek and Messi take place?

We are in a city, there will be test matches and then there is the cup. So let’s hope for luck.

Biek: “Paolo Maldini is my president”

Who is behind Miami FC?

It is a group of investors from AC Milan. My president is Paolo Maldini.

Do you also mourn Erfurt?

Despite all the anticipation for the adventure, I’m also sad. We have built a lot together here at RWE, and my child was born in Erfurt.

What you certainly won’t miss is the German weather…

Definitely not. We are currently looking for an apartment and want to look for something near the beach. I’m looking forward to eating there, there are many very good Mexican restaurants in Miami. In addition, the way of life of the Americans, this positive lifestyle, the openness. And of course the league.

Which opponents are waiting for you?

We’re flying across the USA. From San Francisco, Las Vegas, Pittsburgh or Indianapolis – there are many interesting cities to get to know. And with a good team. This is going to be wild!

WHAT HAPPENED? Kate Abdo has revealed that Lionel Messi refused to make a cameo in the Champions League broadcast CBS Sports to give because Jamie Carragher was present. The Argentine refused because he found the expert’s criticism of his move to Paris Saint-Germain inappropriate. Messi is said to have even called Carragher a “donkey” via text message.

The USMNT duo Matt Miazga and Walker Zimmerman form the team’s central defense, while World Cup winner Thiago Almada is deployed in midfield alongside MVP Lucho Acosta, ex-Atletico Madrid star Hector Herrera and former league MVP Hany Mukhtar. Inter Miami Cancels Planned China Tour: Here’s What Happened

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 2, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Inter Miami’s trip to China including two friendly matches will not take place.

WHAT HAPPENED? Inter Miami canceled its planned tour to China in early November. The MLS club published on Wednesday an official statement on its websitewhich cited “unforeseen circumstances” as the reason.

WHAT HAPPENED? The statement from superstar Lionel Messi’s club reads: “Tour organizer NSN has informed Inter Miami of the cancellation of the China tour due to unforeseen circumstances in China. Inter Miami’s goal remains to expand its global reach by performing in front of incredible fans all over the world.”

WHAT IS THE BACKGROUND? After missing the playoffs in the MLS, Miami’s season is already over. The club wanted to use the time for a marketing trip to China including two friendly matches. These should take place on November 5th and 8th against Qingdao Hainiu and Chengdu Rongcheng.

The Argentine journalist Gaston Edul von TyC Sports reported at the beginning of the week that the two test matches would not take place due to “bureaucratic and economic problems”.

WHAT’S NEXT? Due to the canceled trip, Inter now has an even longer winter break. The new season in the MLS begins at the end of February, and Messi and Co. will probably start training again in January.

MLS Playoff Format Changes: What to Expect for the Crew and Atlanta United
News

MLS Playoff Format Changes: What to Expect for the Crew and Atlanta United

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com October 28, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The Crew will see the new MLS playoff format firsthand starting Wednesday against Atlanta United.

Instead of a a single-elimination first round where the top seed in both the Eastern and Western conferences get byes, MLS added two seeds and a wild card game to each conference, while making the first round a best-of-three series in 2023.

The conference semifinals, conference finals and MLS Cup will remain single-elimination games.

And while Crew coach Wilfried Nancy is not saying whether the format changes are a good or bad thing for the sport, he did say the changes are “not easy.”

“I am a little bit surprised by this format,” Nancy said. “Again, I’m not saying it’s bad or it’s good. I’m saying that we want to promote a lot of actions, a lot of goals and so on. … We’re going to have more games, and it’s normal. I understand that and I’m happy for that because what does it mean? It means we’re going to have more visibility. But the last call like this is not easy, both mentally and in terms of fitness.”

It’s a format Crew midfielder and captain Darlington Nagbe admittedly didn’t understand at first.

“It’s a bit confusing,” Nagbe said. “It’s good there’s more games for the league, I guess. But as a player, it’s kind of strange. … But it’s the new format. Hopefully it does well and hopefully the fans like it.”

For Crew defender Rudy Camacho, all the team can do is adapt.

“Now it’s just three games,” he said. “It’s not bad. It gives you a chance to show who is the best in three games. It’s not like one game where you can miss this game and be out. After, it’s going to be one game. We don’t know why, but it’s like this. We don’t think too much, and we try to go far.”

Extra time rules change in 2023 MLS playoffs

The changes do not stop at the amount of games for MLS playoff teams.

If a first-round match is tied at the end of regulation, no extra time will be played. Instead, teams will participate in a penalty shootout to determine the winner.

This changes in the conference semifinals, conference finals and MLS Cup where, if the game is tied at the end of regulation, two 15-minute extra-time periods will be played in their entirety with penalty kicks ensuing if a result is still not decided.

“To change between the beginning and the middle and the end, it’s difficult,” Nancy said. “It’s difficult. Now this is the way it is.”

While the playoff format may be changing, the Crew’s approach is not.

“I think we’ll approach it the same,” Nagbe said. “I know I will. I know the team will. I think our mindset has just been a game at a time. Don’t focus on what’s ahead of ourselves.”

The Crew start their best-of-three first round against Atlanta at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lower.com Field. The Crew will then take on Atlanta on the road Nov. 7 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

If necessary, the Crew will then host a third game against Atlanta at 7 p.m. Nov. 12 at Lower.com Field.

Lionel Messi Nominated for MLS Newcomer of the Year Award: Impressive Start with Inter Miami

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com October 27, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Barely six months in Miami, Lionel Messi has already won his first award.

WHAT HAPPENED? Lionel Messi has been nominated for the MLS Newcomer of the Year award despite having only played six games in the US league for his new club Inter Miami.

The total of three finalists were determined by a vote of MLS players, MLS club employees (coaches, technical directors/general managers) and media representatives. In addition to the Argentine, Giorgios Giakoumakis from Atlanta United and Eduard Lowen from St. Louis City are also in the final for the award.

WHAT IS THE BACKGROUND? Messi only moved from Paris Saint-Germain to Inter Miami in the last summer transfer window. In the MLS, the Argentine world champion only needed a short time to get started. In a total of 14 games for the Florida club, he scored eleven goals and provided five assists.
