USA Cricket Filesโ for Bankruptcy, Severingโ Tiesโข with controversial Commercial Partner ACE
WILMINGTON, DE – โฃ USA โCricket has โขfiled for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protectionโฃ as it moves โto terminate โฃa โฃlong-termโ commercial agreement with Americanโข Cricket Enterprises (ACE) and restructure it’s finances, the organization announcedโค today. Theโข move follows a recent โsuspension of USAโค Cricket’s โmembership by theโข Internationalโค Cricket Councilโ (ICC) and aims to address โขgovernance concerns and pave the way for a lasting future for โthe sport in the United States,โ notably โwith the Los Angelesโข 2028โ Olympics on the โhorizon.
The core of โtheโ issue lies with the 50-year agreement with ACE, finalized on โขAugust 22, 2025, which USA Cricket alleges heavily favored ACE and was negotiated with insufficient board oversight and notable conflicts of interest. According to โฃaโค statement released by USA โCricket, the deal restricted the national governingโ body’s ability to secure team sponsorships and broadcastโ partnerships, whileโ providing โขonly a โฃminimal share โof revenue -โ estimated to be well below the $5โค millionโฃ annual commercial value ofโ USA nationalโ team โrights.
“ACE never delivered on its funding obligations,โฃ never paid staff or player salaries, and routinely offset its Major League Cricket (MLC) expenses against moniesโค owed โto USAโค Cricket,” the statement reads. Furthermore, infrastructure promises were unmet, with only one โICC-grade stadium constructed โout of the six required by 2025.
The bankruptcy filing provides legal protection as USA Cricket works โto resolve contractual โissues, implement governance reforms, and regain its standing withโ the ICC, which โขsuspendedโ the organization โearlier this year.
“We were forced โinto the protectionsโ of the โU.S. Bankruptcy Court as ACE weaponized its financial muscle to frustrate our ability to govern the sport,” explained Corey MacDonald, USA Cricket’s General counsel.
Johnathan Atkeison,โ who becameโค USA Cricket CEO in 2024 after successfully reorganizing USA Rugby, emphasized the long-term benefits of the restructuring. “This move allows usโฃ the time and legal framework to reset and meet the International Cricket Council’s expectations,” he โsaid.”This Chapter 11 filingโฃ is a decisive moveโข to โฃcorrect our financialโค trajectory, build โthe world-class NGB america deserves,โ and โฃprepare for the Olympic stage.”
USA Cricket plans toโค release further details regardingโ the restructuringโข and itsโ long-term vision for cricket โขin the United States in โคthe coming weeks. The organization is focused on โreassessing its commercial strategy โฃandโ rebuilding โtrust with stakeholders as it prepares for cricket’s return to the Olympicsโ at โคLA โ2028.
