Frankfurt Customs Investigation Uncovers Massive Illegal Shisha Tobacco Factories: Over 2.2 Tons Seized

CUSTOMS-F: Frankfurt customs investigation busts illegal shisha tobacco factories – More than 2.2 tons of untaxed hookah tobacco seized. The investigators confiscated around 2,250 kilograms of untaxed water pipe tobacco, 9,850 untaxed cigarettes and 14,000 euros in cash from searched warehouses.

“In addition to the 2.2 tons of untaxed hookah tobacco, the customs forces also seized extensive production materials for the production of other illegal shisha tobacco, including canisters of glycerin, flavorings, raw tobacco and counterfeit packaging from well-known manufacturers. The resulting tax damage is currently estimated at 680,000 euros “, said Carina Orth, press spokeswoman for the Frankfurt am Main customs investigation office.

With the raw materials seized on site, the suspects could have produced a further 6,000 kilograms of untaxed water pipe tobacco.

The investigations, led by the Kaiserslautern public prosecutor’s office, are directed against two groups of perpetrators from Ludwigshafen am Rhein, the Rhein-Pfalz district, the Mainz-Bingen district and the Neckar-Odenwald district. They are accused of gang and commercial tax evasion as well as tax stealing in connection with the illegal production and trade of untaxed water pipe tobacco and cigarettes.

The ten suspects, aged between 20 and 50, were initially tracked down by a complaint about the alleged importation of a significant amount of cigarettes from Poland.

The operation was supported by forces from the main customs offices in Karlsruhe and Koblenz as well as the Stuttgart customs investigation office. The removal of the seized evidence took place with the involvement of the Technical Relief Organization – Koblenz and Ludwigshafen am Rhein local association.

The Frankfurt am Main customs investigation office, Kaiserslautern headquarters, is conducting further investigations on behalf of the Kaiserslautern public prosecutor’s office.

Further information

Water pipe tobacco and cigarettes are subject to tobacco tax in the Federal Republic of Germany as so-called excise goods. Tobacco products within the meaning of the Tobacco Tax Act may only be offered for sale and sold or purchased in Germany if they have been properly taxed here (in the tax territory of the Federal Republic of Germany). This can be seen from the German tax stamps. Anyone who purchases tobacco products for which tobacco tax has been evaded with the intention of enriching themselves or procures them for themselves or a third party, or sells or helps sell these untaxed tobacco products, is committing criminal commercial tax fraud.

Ludwigshafen (dpa) – The Ludwigshafen Film Festival presented this year’s awards at a gala on the Parkinsel in the Rhine. The organizers announced on Saturday in the second largest city in Rhineland-Palatinate that the film art prize would be awarded in three categories. Honored were โ€œSonne and Concreteโ€ by David Wnendt (film) and Lars Krause for โ€œThe Uncertainty Principle of Loveโ€ (director) as well as Alice Gruia for โ€œBe just as you areโ€ (screenplay). The audience award went to โ€œWe have a dealโ€ by Felicitas Korn.

The actresses Martina Gedeck and Nastassja Kinski were honored at the 19th German Film Festival for their roles in โ€œThe Silent Satellitesโ€. All prices are undoped.

After 19 days, the festival ends on Sunday. The organizers draw a positive conclusion. A total of around 112,000 tickets were sold, said director Michael Kรถtz. This means that the festival is building on the numbers from before the pandemic and remains the German film festival with the highest number of spectators after the Berlinale. The event on the border with Baden-Wรผrttemberg is considered an important industry meeting.

A transfer to Al-Hilal was “out of the question”, he wanted to either go back to his heart club FC Barcelona or to the USA. Accordingly, Major League Soccer and Inter Miami, co-owner David Beckham, are trying to bring the seven-time world footballer (35) to the United States after he ended at Paris Saint-Germain. Previously, “Goal” and “Spox” had also reported that Messi had asked to postpone his move to Al-Hilal until 2024.

The league has become very creative with all of this, “everything is on the table,” said an MLS representative “The Athletic”. The MLS offer to Messi therefore includes payments from the two biggest league sponsors. The MLS and the tech giant Apple want to offer Messi a share of the streaming revenues. Apple and MLS signed a 10-year, $2.5 billion deal earlier this month.

Apple also announced on Tuesday that it would broadcast a four-part documentary series covering Messi’s five World Cup appearances. Adidas, one of the biggest MLS sponsors, is said to be preparing its own agreement. They offer Messi a profit-sharing deal with the sportswear giant. Messi already has a lifetime contract with the German company.

Twitter recordings fueled speculation

On Monday, a short video in Spain had once again fueled speculation about Messi’s return to Barcelona. Sports journalist Toni Juanmartรญ posted footage on Twitter showing Messi’s father and manager Jorge entering the home of Barรงa club boss Joan Laporta on Monday.

After two seasons at Paris Saint-Germain, the seven-time world footballer is leaving the French champions in the summer. The Argentine’s contract expires on June 30 and Messi can then move on a free transfer. According to media reports, Al-Hilal is offering Messi an annual salary of well over 300 million euros. Payments of up to 500 million euros per year were also reported.
