Danny Green announces his retirement after 15 seasons and 3 NBA rings

Washington, Oct 10 (EFE).- American shooting guard Danny Green announced this Thursday his retirement from professional basketball after 15 seasons in the elite and three NBA championships won with the San Antonio Spurs (2014), Toronto Raptors (2019) and Los Angeles Lakers (2020).

“I never imagined writing this letter, although I knew this day would eventually come,” Green, 37, said in a message on his social media.

“My life has revolved around this sport, taking me around the world and meeting incredible people. It has been an extraordinary journey that I am immensely proud of,” he added.

Green came to the NBA in the 2009-2010 season, after being chosen in the draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The San Antonio Spurs acquired his services the following season, a franchise in which Green would spend half of his career, winning his first NBA ring in 2014 alongside the legendary team of Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan.

He then won the 2019 championship in Toronto with Marc Gasol and the 2020 championship in the Lakers with LeBron James.

He stood out especially from the triple line, with a 40% accuracy rate throughout his career.

Green was without a team after being released by the Philadelphia 76ers at the beginning of last season.

The three-time NBA champion has a podcast called “Inside the Green Room” in which this Thursday he planned to give more details about his decision.

His last team was the French BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque in 2020.

He averaged 3.3 points in 132 games in the NBA.

His former team, the Lakers, called Morris’ extremely early death “heartbreaking” in a farewell post published on X (formerly: Twitter).

Lakers achieve first victory against Denver and remain alive in the playoffs

The Angels. Playing on the brink of elimination, LeBron James’ Los Angeles Lakers achieved their first victory of the NBA first-round playoff series against the Denver Nuggets on Saturday, 119-108, to stay alive.

The Los Angeles team, which was forced to win to stay alive, now has a 3-1 disadvantage against the current NBA champions, who had a streak of 11 consecutive victories against LeBron James’ team.

With the support of his fans, ‘King James’ added 30 points and Anthony Davis another 25 plus 23 rebounds to avoid a new 4-0 sweep like the one they suffered last year against the Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals.

Nikola Jokic, Denver’s star, finished with a huge triple double of 33 points, 14 rebounds and 14 assists.

The Serbian center was supported by Jamal Murray (22 points) and Michael Porter Jr. (27) but the rest of his teammates were overwhelmed by the Lakers determined to avoid another humiliating elimination.

Unlike the initial three games, the team led by Darvin Ham maintained its lead on the scoreboard in the face of the Nuggets’ comeback attempts and the tense atmosphere that existed at the Crypto.com Arena.

Despite the victory, the Lakers continue to face an almost impossible mission since no franchise has come back from 3-0 down in the entire history of the playoffs.

Game 5 of this Western Conference playoffs will be played on Monday at the Nuggets’ Ball Arena.

Suffering, Lakers get their ticket to the NBA playoffs

Suffering until the end, LeBron James’ Los Angeles Lakers got their ticket to the NBA playoffs this Tuesday by winning on the court of the New Orleans Pelicans by 110-106 at the start of the playoffs (‘play in’).

The Lakers, who will be the seventh seed in the Western Conference, will face a new duel in the first round against the Denver Nuggets (2nd).

In the playoffs a year ago, Nikola Jokic’s Nuggets swept the Lakers 4-0 in the Western Finals on their way to the first ring in their history.

At 39 years old, LeBron had 23 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists but, exhausted in the final stretch, he left the spotlight to Anthony Davis (20 points and 15 rebounds) and D’Angelo Russell (21 points and 6 assists).

Between all of them, they managed to neutralize the exhibition of Zion Williamson, who had 40 points and 11 rebounds and commanded a comeback from an 18-point deficit with which the Pelicans forced a heart-stopping close.

But Williamson, who was fighting to qualify for his first playoffs, retired to the locker room with three minutes left when the game was tied at 95.

The Lakers took advantage of it to certify the victory with several key actions by Davis and a decisive triple by Russell with 51 seconds left.

The Pelicans will have a second and final chance to advance to the postseason on Friday.

New York Knicks victorious over Philadelphia 76ers in playoff opener; Los Angeles Lakers fall to Denver Nuggets

The New York Knicks start the playoffs successfully against the Philadelphia 76ers. For the Lakers, on the other hand, there is no reason to be happy.

Philadelphia 76ers @ New York Knicks 104:111

Isaiah Hartenstein and the New York Knicks started the NBA playoffs with a win. The second-best team in the Eastern Conference in the regular season defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 111-104 to open the best-of-seven series at Madison Square Garden. Center Hartenstein had six points and seven rebounds in 18 minutes of playing time.

The Knicks were very happy with the performance of a united team, Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart each 22 points, and Miles McBride came off the bench with 21 points.

Tyrese Maxey scored 33 points for the Sixers. Last year’s league MVP Joel Embiid was injured on the visitors’ team after landing, he kept his left knee, which was operated on in February, but he returned after a break and scored 29 points.

Los Angeles Lakers @ Denver Nuggets 103:114

The defending champion Denver Nuggets led by superstar Nikola Jokic (32 points, twelve rebounds) took a 1-0 lead in the series against the Los Angeles Lakers with 114:103. For the Lakers, who only qualified for the last round of the best 16 through the play-ins, Anthony Davis (32 points) and LeBron James (27), as usual, were the main winners.

The Nuggets had already won all three duels in the regular season with the Lakers and were dominating the 2023 playoff series 4-0.

Already on Saturday, the world champions Franz and Moritz Wagner had to admit that they lost the Cleveland Cavaliers 83:97 in their first playoff with the Orlando Magic.

The Minnesota Timberwolves started with a clear 120:95 against the Phoenix Suns.
