The Knicks coaching search is officially underway.

Knicks Shift Focus to Former Head Coaches

After encountering roadblocks in their attempts to interview current NBA head coaches, the Knicks have pivoted their attention to experienced former coaches. Other Potential Coaching candidates

While Jenkins and Brown are currently in the mix, other names have also been mentioned as potential candidates for the Knicks head coaching job. these include former Denver Nuggets coach Michael Malone, former Milwaukee Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer, and Jeff Van Gundy, who last coached in the NBA in 2007.

The team’s performance marked a significant turnaround under Thibodeau’s leadership.

Knicks president Leon Rose stated that the move was “best for our organization moving forward” and thanked Thibodeau for his contributions.

Thibodeau’s Tenure with the Knicks

Thibodeau’s tenure with the Knicks saw the team return to relevance in the Eastern Conference. In 2020-21, his first season with the team, he earned his second NBA Coach of the Year award after leading the Knicks to their first winning record and playoff appearance as 2012-13.During his five years in New York, the Knicks had only one losing season.

prior to joining the Knicks, Thibodeau served as head coach of the Chicago Bulls (2010-15) and Minnesota Timberwolves (2016-19). He has a career head coaching record of 578-420 (.579). While he has yet to win an NBA championship as a head coach, he won a title as the Celtics’ associate head coach in 2008.

2025 NBA Draft guide: Top 100 prospects, rankings, tiers and analysis

Flagg Leads Promising, Yet Uneven, 2025 NBA Draft Class

Top Prospects Emerge in a Year of Collegiate Retention

The 2025 NBA Draft is taking shape, with a clear frontrunner in Cooper Flagg, but overall depth appears limited due to a surge in college players opting to remain in school. This year’s draft class presents a unique landscape for teams seeking future stars.

Flagg and Harper Headline the Lottery

Evaluations point to Cooper Flagg as the likely first overall pick. He’s earned the highest prospect grade in the last decade, second only to Victor Wembanyama. Flagg’s combination of potential and a solid floor makes him a remarkably safe selection, while still possessing the ability to become a dominant force.

Following Flagg is Dylan Harper, projected as a future All-Star. His ability to consistently drive to the basket and create scoring opportunities, coupled with his refined skillset at nearly 6-foot-5, positions him as a highly sought-after playmaker.

“Cooper Flagg has a tremendous blend of ceiling and floor. His skill level, improvement as a shooter, defense and overall competitiveness make him about as safe a prospect as you can find.”

—Unnamed Draft Analyst, Report Author

Depth Concerns and the NIL Impact

Beyond the top two, the draft class is considered less stellar than anticipated. While there’s a good supply of potential starters and role players, the number of projected superstars is notably low. A recent study by the NCAA revealed that over $600 million was allocated to student-athletes through Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals in 2023-2024 (NCAA.org), contributing to fewer players entering the draft early.

The influx of money into college basketball has significantly impacted the draft’s depth, particularly in the second round and among undrafted free agents. Many players who would have previously declared for the draft are now choosing to capitalize on NIL opportunities and remain in college.

Shifting Draft Priorities

Modern NBA evaluation is increasingly focused on players who can contribute across multiple facets of the game. This year’s evaluator prioritizes size, shooting, passing, and defensive capabilities. Smaller guards must reach All-Star level to avoid limited roles, due to defensive vulnerabilities.

The analyst highlighted several players he believes are undervalued: Kon Knueppel, Cedric Coward, Collin Murray-Boyles, Noah Penda, and Ryan Kalkbrenner. Conversely, he expressed reservations about the projections for Jeremiah Fears, Egor Demin, Noa Essengue, and Rasheer Fleming.

Potential for Draft-Night Surprises

The draft, scheduled for June 25 and 26, could be marked by unexpected trades. Several established stars may be on the move this offseason, and draft week could be the catalyst for those deals. The international withdrawal deadline may also introduce late additions to the draft pool, as players weigh college offers against professional opportunities.

Blake Griffin confirms his retirement from the NBA

written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The Angels. Veteran Blake Griffin, six-time All-Star, confirmed this Tuesday the end of a career in which he became one of the most spectacular scorers in the NBA.

The power forward made the announcement through an emotional message on social networks after spending this entire season inactive.

“Reflecting on my career, the feeling I continue to encounter and want to express is gratitude,” wrote Griffin, 35.

“Basketball gave me so much in life and I wouldn’t change it for anything,” he thanked.

At 2.06 meters tall and with extraordinary physical power, Griffin delighted fans with the fiercest dunks during his best years in the NBA.

The power forward came into the league as the first pick in the 2009 Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers.

In the Los Angeles franchise he developed most of his career, forming a powerful trio with point guard Chris Paul and center DeAndre Jordan that competed in the playoffs six years in a row, an unprecedented streak for the Clippers.

Griffin averaged 24.1 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists in the 2013-2014 season and was elected to six All-Star Games, winning the dunk contest in 2011.

Affected by various injuries, his performance and physique were declining when he left the Clippers in 2018. He later played for the Detroit Pistons, Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics, with whom he played his last game in the NBA in April 2023.

German NBA Players Hartenstein and Theis Suffer Defeats Against Top Eastern Conference Teams

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com December 24, 2023

Hartenstein played against the Bucks from the start (Harry How)

First Isaiah Hartenstein lost, then world champion Daniel Theis too: Shortly before Christmas, the two national basketball players in the NBA suffered significant defeats against the two top teams in the Eastern Conference. While Hartenstein and the New York Knicks lost 111:130 to the Milwaukee Bucks led by superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, Theis and the Los Angeles Clippers lost 108:145 against his former club Boston Celtics. Individually, however, the Germans put up good numbers.

Hartenstein, who started from the start, received the third most playing time on his team with just under 33 minutes. The center took advantage of this for twelve points and 13 rebounds. Theis scored 15 points coming off the bench, converting his two three-point attempts. In terms of width, however, the Clippers fell short of expectations; the best thrower in LA was Paul George with 21 points.

Boston, for whom Theis played from 2017 to 2021 and in 2022, consolidated its top position in the league – led by Jason Tatum, who shone with 30 points the day before Christmas Eve.

The Bucks, who had defeated the Orlando Magic (118:114) against the two world champions Franz and Moritz Wagner in the previous game, celebrated their seventh win in a row and the ninth from the last ten games. In Madison Square Garden, the second-place team in the East was once again able to rely on Antetokounmpo; the Greek was the guests’ top scorer with 28 points. For the Knicks, however, 36 points from the strong Jalen Brunson were not enough.
