Turin, Italy – โฃ Tragedy struck โคthe ATP Finals in โTurin on Monday as two spectators, agedโค 70 and 78, โคdied after suffering โcardiac arrest, the Italian Tennis Federation (FITP) and the ATP โjointly announced Tuesday. Medical personnel responded immediatly โฃto both incidents,โฃ which occurred at separateโ times during the day’s matches, and transported theโ individuals to โขa local hospital, but were unable to save their lives.
“We extend our deepest condolencesโ on the tragic passing ofโ two fans yesterday during โtheโ ATP Finalsโข in Turin,” an ATP statement read. The FITP echoed the sentiment, adding that emergency medicalโค response wasโ provided promptly at the scene.
The first match of the day, featuring Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti and Taylorโ Fritz, was delayed briefly asโค information regarding the medical emergencies was released.
On the court, defending championโ Jannik โSinner began hisโข campaign with โคa dominant straight-sets victory over felix โAuger-Aliassime, 7-5, 6-1,โ in front of aโค home crowd. Sinner needs to win theโ season-ending tournament featuring the world’s top eight players to โฃmaintain his number one ranking. Though, Carlos โขAlcaraz’s progress looms large; should Alcaraz reach the final, he will secure the โขyear-end number one โฃspot nonetheless of the outcome.
Sinner wonโ the Turin title last year without dropping a set and has been undefeated at the โevent since his loss to Novak Djokovic in the โฃ2023 โfinal.
