Teen Mother, 15, Plans Return to School with Robot, Hopes to Graduate with Peers
SANDVIKEN, SWEDEN – My, a 15-year-old in Sandviken, Sweden, is preparing to return to school just two weeksโข after giving birth toโฃ her daughter, Nicole. She โplans to participate โin lessons remotely via a robot, steadfast to stay with her classmates and avoid being held back a year. The social services will investigate to ensure both My and Nicole receive the necessary support.
My’s story highlights the challenges and complexities โfaced by young mothers, and the innovative solutions being employed to help โthem continue thier education. Whileโ not originally planned, My expresses optimism about the unique bond she anticipates sharing with her daughter, believing their โclose โฃage will foster a deeper understanding.”A great motivation I have right now is โthat I shoudl not have to take the student with those who are a year younger. So I really wont to go out nine this year,” My stated, referring to completing the equivalentโค of ninth grade.
Currently, My’s mother, โฃLotta, is not working and will be available to care for Nicole while โคMy attends school. Lotta described Nicole as “the dessert of life,” while emphasizing that My remainsโฃ her primary child. “But I want to be clear โคthat it โis still my child, so people do not line up far too much,” my added.
Looking ahead, my โขis considering a future as a professional driver or a farmer, with a preference for living in the countryside or in Kalmar. despite the challenges, she believes becoming a young mother could have its benefits.
“I think you get a very close band when you are closer in age. That I will understand her in a differentโฃ way during her upbringing, because itโ was not long ago I was ther too. But โof course there will be both positive and negative parts to be as young mom as โI do.”
Expressen journalist Malin Hansson and photographer Sven Lindwall were in Sandviken covering the story.
